You can use the mac g5 (all pc express slots filled up of course) for use with up to EIGHT YES thats 8 Displays http://www.apple.com/macpro/graphics.html

I dont get it. So, with what I'm getting I need to fill up all my pc express slots?

Is that so I can use upto 8 displays? How many can I use now with what I have. I'd love to use more than 3 monitors! As of now ill be using the 2 17" apple monitors to edit and a 50" Sony SXRD 1080p for live view.(if thats what you call it "live view").

The G5 I'm buying comes with all that stuff in the list above, plus Final Cut Pro HD, all for only $5,700. He paid over 17K for everything on that list. It's a turn key system that has everything I need to be a powerhouse editor. No? $5,700 does not include the Sony TV.

You don't really need more than two monitors to edit on i'm just saying you can have up to eight (although there is really no need for that many). As it is obvious you are new to editing I suggest strating out with maybe one or two monitors then see how you go from there.

Thank you. I'll have the two apple monitors and the 50" to view on as I'm editing.

Make sure that you own the rights to FCP so that you can upgrade... or call Apple for support...

The guy selling me the system is also my director of photography. I dont think I'll own the rights but he will be there for support, he speaks at FCP conferences (something like that). I'll be using FCP with his license.

Just wanted you to be able to update... a friend bought an Apple G5 from a guy who had all this software (FCP, Photoshop, Shake, Maya, etc.) installed... but it was illegal... my friend was driving me crazy calling me everytime he had a problem...

I have the same mac and love it. I will upgrade eventually, be even when using HD footage it doesn't seem to be a problem and I only have 2.5 gigs of RAM.

You're getting a lot for the money. In a perfect world it's always nice to buy new, but that's a lot of hardware.

so your reason for not using FCP is because all the big guns use?

doesnt that tell you that its a great nle, if "all the big guns" use it?
