Final Cut Problem

Okay I have a DVX100b and I use Final Cut to edit. But I keep getting this blocky, pixelized looking footage. Maybe my settings are wrong. I shot in 24p advanced and here are the stills from my footage.

What is your 'quality playback' setting set to?

What he said.

Also, what are your capture settings? If you're shooting in 24PA, then you need to use the "advanced pulldown removal".

I would say part of your problem is with the footage itself. It looks like it was shot in low light with those intense reds. Like myfriendimage, those things don't always play well together. Have you looked at the footage on a calibrated production monitor?

Blockies: This is a result of the 4:1:1 color sampling in DV. Try adding a Color Smoothing 4:1:1 before any of your color correction or really anything.

Wierd jaggy lines during movement means that the pulldown isn't removed correctly.

I dont know FCP but what I see is system settings: 2:3:2:3 and audio/video settings 2:3:3:2

Not sure if that is a determining factor.

Nice party by the way.

ahh ic... so the default setting to use to capture 24p advanced footage in FCP is the advanced pulldown option?

How does it look in a NTSC screen? My Pal edited footage when viewed on the Mac screen looks like yours, but edited and played back looks a lot better.

Anyway, nice subject matter! Be sure to put that footage on the screen grabs/footage section! :)
