T2i Final Cut Pro Questions

I just bought a T2i as some know. I shot acouple test shots on a 16 GB card. I have a card reader & it appeared on the iMac desktop. How do I make the clips appear in the "log & transfer" in Final Cut Pro? Also, why do I have to render the movie files when I drag them into the timeline?

Thanks for any help,
Brandon

You have to render them because they are h246. If you covert them to ProRes 422 first they will be much easier/better to work with/edit.

Personally, I just drag the clips I want to a folder on my desktop, convert, and then import those into my FCP project. No log and transfer for me.

In compressor what codec do I choose? Where's it located?

In the settings window, look under Apple/Other Workflows/Advanced Format Conversions/Apple Codecs/Apple ProRes 422 for Progressive material

All of the other solutions in this thread will work as well. But if you already have Compressor installed, I'd just stick with that.

Does anyone know if the EOS movie plugin for final cut pro work? How do I get it to work so I can "log & capture"

I found that the best workflow for me is transferring the footage to my computer. Then using a custom preset on compressor, I convert it to ProRes 422 (proxy). These are very tiny files (relatively) and will offer enough resolution for whatever you're going to see in the FCP viewer at least. And then I just delete/move that folder with the converted footage and when FCP searches for them, i just link it back to the originals and render. Pie.

also, regarding your question. to make the EOS plugin to work you would need to copy the structure of the card. meaning you have to copy not only the movie files but you need to also imitate the folder structure (DCIM/7D/blahla) Only then will the utility recognize it. Otherwise, buy a card reader. So it can read off the card directly. plugging the camera USB won't work.

Seems like you need to do A LOT of reading instead of getting easy answers. You will never learn without reading, so take one step at a time and READ as all of this information is found on these forums.

yeah I am so used to the HVX200a log & capture. I guess I got to convert them. its a bummer but I guess people are really okay with that. lol. thanks for the help! Also my canon t2i doesnt mount on my iMac desktop... is that normal? I do have a card reader - so I guess that saved me! but thanks!

you don't got to be a d!ck just because I asked a question. I am not going to sit here & search for answers when Its faster for me to just ask a professional on the forum.

He's kinda right. Not only is EOS plugin particular, but its also a completely different system than tape capture.

It's log and transfer. There's a bunch of little details that you might wanna read up on.

A dick? When I and countless other people have already helped you. First of all the "EASY" way is not the correct way because you will ALWAYS be needing help. You need to understand the way things work and why they work the way they do.

If someone tells you everything you will never learn. Asking for help with you applying yourself is very different then you basically wanting people to do the work for you. So like I said take the time and READ, then take some more time and READ.

Grow up and understand that people are here to help you, but you need to help yourself first

peace
