I filmed my daughter's baptism on p2 cards a couple weeks ago. Finally received my FCP upgrade and installed it tonight. When i would dump the info onto my desktop, I would save the cards as .dmg files. Why can't I import them into FCP? Could someone please help me. Thanks a lot.

A DMG file is a Disk Image File that contains all of the files that were on the P2 media. You need to mount it or burn it to a DVD.

so I can't work on it in FCP? Do I burn it to a DVD in DVD studio pro? What is mounting it? Sorry for the newbie questions. Any additional help is greatly appreciated.

whoa sailor..your thinking to hard.
double click your DMG files to open up,
then just import from FCP from your newly
mounted P2 folder.

Theres nothing wrong with saving P2 as DMG
files....but you need to "unzip" the file to access
you mxf.

Apple recommends backing up P2 to DMG,
but we've seen corrupt DMG files as
well. I've been backing up to DMG as well
as burning P2 to DVD data disc (this is not the
same as authoring a DVD in DVDSP).

I've been just backing up the original CONTENTS folder and LASTCLIP.txt, I never use the DMG method, I don't see the advantage to it, besides making an MS-DOS FAT 32 disk image. But once you open that DMG, and copy the files to your physical hard drive, it's the same thing as copying the files from the P2 card to your physical hard drive.
