Hair like wool? I think that's in Revelation, right? When John sees Jesus...
White like wool.

So really it's more about the woman at the well than about Jesus; but I want the dialogue to be authentic and true to the Scriptures. The main line is: Salvation is from the Jews. I want to concentrate on the interpretation of this line, because that's where I'll debate the bias issue.

My next film tackles this too in some ways, (the tension between Christians and Jews and where salvation comes from) as the main characters are an African American Christian male and a darker skinned Jewish female and her family.

I don't think any of the films disagree salvation is from the Jews as Jesus himself was Jewish bringing the Jewish God to the Gentiles. But I think the very fact of Jesus being seen as white let's people easily forget He was Jewish therefore certain ideas are allowed to flourish. That's why I think it's important to depict Jesus as a dark skinned Jew. I'm not saying depict him as African American, but simply as a dark skinned Jewish man. He was Jewish, right. I don't like depictions of Jesus in general but it seems there are no middle Eastern actors that can be Jesus in a movie? (Like no African American actresses that could play Fox in the movie "Wanted").

I like to remind people that everyone sees Jesus like themselves. I have a page where I show pictures of Jesus as depicted from many different countries.

So I really have to take that into consideration when depicting Jesus in THE WOMAN AT THE WELL.

Since I might very well go for a mixed dream-reality portrayal of the story, I'm considering doing something unusual with the actual images I create of the characters playing the roles of Jesus and the Samaritan woman.

I could have really used that $25,000 Kickstarter money; but I can't convince anyone that I'm going to make this amazing movie.

Oh, well, maybe I can do it with costumes, make-up, prosthetic ... or CGI?

Vic :)

For us on this user group the most important topic is the filmmaking process while it's going on -- like in this thread for THE WOMAN AT THE WELL. I don't hear you asking questions or commenting on this project. Why is that?

But thanks for visiting anyway. You have the right to remain silent ... just kidding you, Shawn. You don't have to tithe

Vic, I don't really know what to say about your project. First it's about gold diggers then suddenly it's about the Biblical story. You put a fundraiser page up without an ounce of prep. I went back in your posting history...whatever happened to 'Fellini Directs Again'? You posted 14 pages up to the day you were beginning production of that feature length film. I'd love to see a preview of it.

I really appreciate your feedback :undecided I'm still between projects.
Fellini Directs Again! is still in the works. Here is the link: http://www.felliniesque.com/fellini_directs_again.html

It's still up on Indiegogo: http://www.indiegogo.com/Fellini-Directs-Again?a=8938&i=imgl Notice I reduced the budget from $5,000 to $500. My number 3 perk is Executive Producer credit! That's for funding the project in its entirety! $500! This is a feature film credit, Shawn! And no takers; imagine that, Shawn! What does that say about the state of our economy, nay, about the state of our civilization, for crying out loud  ?!!!

I was going to reduce my budget in Kickstarter as well, but the interface doesn't allow me to do it. I was going to budget it at $1,200 just so I could fix my water pump. I can make a movie on nothing!

I'm ready to shoot :kali: either one, Shawn.

1) Fellini Directs Again!
Synopsis: Fellini directs :violin:Filmman takes a :bath:

2) The Woman at the Well.
Synopsis:  Samaritan woman is surprised to find Jesus asking her for a drink of water :banned: she thinks she's not good enough, but Jesus surprises her with his answer :engel017:

I can make either one as a cartoon if I have to. Hey, be sure to check out my proof of concept for THE WOMAN AT THE WELL.

It's tough man, it really is. If you can do it for $500, then why not take down the fundraising and just do it yourself? Perhaps you should do some shorts, like entering the DVXUser fests

It sure is tough.

I'll be taking the indigogo down for sure. The kickstarter I'm letting it ride out its period. You're right, it was put up in a rush; I wanted to try out this option. I learned a lot more from it than I expected. When everyone jumped on me on the first day, I knew I'd struck gold :nads:Kickstarter also means getting kicked in the shins sometimes.

So what is it about this project that it didn't attract one dollar of funding?

Six million Jews were murdered by the Nazis over the lie that Jesus came to bring Christianity for the Gentiles. You know, all the Western churches preach that the Samaritan woman was a gentile. I can't go into this bias on account of this will be considered a religious discussion; but the historical facts cannot be brushed under the rug as religion: the genocide of millions of Christians and Jews is not religion; it's history.

So clarifying this one saying of Jesus: "Salvation is from the Jews" is the point of this movie I'm going to make. The money is not the issue. I needed to find out if people wanted to know the truth, and I'm glad I found out that they don't want to know. So why bother even ask for $500? So here I agree with you completely. I just had to go through the motions so no one would tell me differently. The only Christian movies that get funded are the ones that have a fundamental lie planted in them. It's usually devilishly well hidden. And I'm not talking about the tiny budget movies being made with digital cameras; these are harmless. I'm talking about the movies by Mel Gibson (Passion), Scorsese (Last Temptation) and Ron Howard (Da Vinci Code) on the subject of Jesus.

I was watching Charlie Rose interview Neil Young last night, and Neil was saying that the Middle East situation was not going to be resolved until the energy issue is resolved. Here's another topic I cannot discuss on any user group, because it will lead to a debate over the issue of terrorism, oil and Israel.

But that's not the Middle East problem. The problem is the same as it was at the time of Jesus: Salvation is from the Jews. Nobody wants to know what that means. I have the only authentic translation of the Scriptures from the language Jesus spoke, and I'm the only one who can make a movie clarifying the issue.

Of course, clarifying the issue won't lead to peace either. The truth is the truth and people prefer lies. That's the human condition. Only as an artist do I get to tell the truth that I believe in. It doesn't matter if anybody supports the truth; the truth will remain the truth and lies will remain lies.

This is what Fellini said: I tell the truth, and the truth is never clear, while lies are quickly understood by everyone -- Federico Fellini.

That's well and good but He was in fact Jewish. When will he be depicted as such. I'd hate to be a really great person only to be depicted by an Eskimo in every film about me. Nothing against Eskimos, but I'm not one. Jesus had a race like the rest of us. Why are we scared to depict it in film? There's many reasons, but none of them are too good. And the main reason is we don't like to depict Jesus as Jewish particularly with skin darker than the average Caucasian, tan or olive would probably be closer to the truth. It's the kind of racism that's taught via low level brainwashing.

If you want to take on Gibson's depiction which you yourself claim to be anti-Jewish then how about casting a Jewish man as Jesus. You're statement about salvation being from the Jews depends on this doesn't it. The fact that I would even have to "push" for it says a lot about our mindsets. And according to the Bible Jesus did come to bring salvation to the gentiles, but it was after he was rejected by the Jews (His main concern at the time).

My take is you should find a Jewish actor with tan or olive skin. Let people know you're trying to do this and I bet you get some people who want to help. Put an ad up on LA casting and Craigslist stating you're seeking darker skinned Jewish actors for the role and see what kind of response you get.

No, I never said otherwise:furious3:; you have a most valid point. I have in the past put out casting calls for "ethnic types" and I had a ton of Jewish actors apply. Also, I have had movies with practically all the cast (and crew :D) being Jewish. So I have no problem with that.

But with regards to THE WOMAN FROM THE WELL, I agree, Jesus should be played by an actor who looks Jewish (as you say He was Jewish) and as for dark skin, yes, that would break the stereotyping to some extent.

I accept your point wholeheartedly, because I believe you're right.

The other character is the Samaritan woman. I want her to look the same, because she's also of that region, and people were dark (it is hot over there and people's melanin rises to the surface.)

I want her to be real pretty though. I'd love to find a really exciting actress to play the role. I think it would dramatize the issue a lot more.

That is really no excuse, if the film is only going to cost $500, how can you not fund that yourself? Work a few hours of OT, sell some of your stuff on ebay, look through the couch cushions!

Thanks for visiting, Rob!

The problem with you is that you're just too practical :violent5:
You know how many $500 ideas I have? I'd be working around the clock for years.

Then again I have some ideas that it would cost me nothing to produce as movies. I wanted to try out these new methods of funding. It sounded like they were easier than asking a millionaire for $10,000 for a movie.

I have many projects in development. There are many screenplay writers that don't want their scripts produced as ultra low budget movies. I can understand that, I respect their wishes and I continue to seek proper forms of finance. It's just that these things take time, and sometimes it's nice just to go out there and make a movie.

So, I'm not stuck for ideas or anything. I'm a bit stranded right now -- until I get my car running properly again.

Thanks for commenting. Come back again.

yes, but if you funded ONE of these ideas you would have something to show future donors/financiers! $500 isn't going to bankrupt you! Just shoot it! You will be waiting forever if you want someone to drop money in your lap. Make something to show them you are worthy of a donation first, and take it from there.

Yep, if you can pull off a quality project for cheap that's good deal to Hollywood execs.

Ok, I will shoot it :kali: I may have found a mechanic who will replace my car's water pump for less than $1,200  I could have bought a car for that in the old days ... but I know, those days are gone :embarasse and the movies I made those days seem to be gone too.

Thanks for sticking with me

Are you really talking about taking money from people, saying it's for a film, and then using it to repair your car?

What's up with all this gibberish about your car's water pump? What does it matter?
Get it fixed with whatever spare cash you have if you really need it but don't let that stop you from making a movie! Nothing should ever stop anyone from making a movie -- there are no excuses. Get the ball rolling and see where it leads.

Oh, and do us all a favor and get something DONE instead of this completely redundant forth and back. Not trying to be an ass, but this topic has run it's course a few times over and over (and over...); I mean, why hasn't it been locked yet?
Filmman, you seem to be serious about this (and you even seem to have some experience racked up). So what gives? Why all this unprofessional twisting and squirming when you could be making a film instead?

The people here have been real helpful to you, and although I'll admit it was a fun read; the topic has no real purpose in this section anymore and I wince a little everytime I see it bumped up to the top -- yet again.

Stop talking. Start shooting. When done, post here.
Until then!

It's WATER pump! I'm saving the planet!

What money?!!! You sound like the SEC; this is Kickstarter :nads:
funding is by fans. So far I have zero fans; but through the process of finding fans, I'm planning to develop the best approach for this film.

The water pump is needed to cool my engine (less CO2 emissions). Once my engine is running cool, I can run the air conditioner. Then when I'm cool, I'll make a cool movie.

So the funds aren't needed for the movie directly, but rather to save the planet and add production value to my movie.

But thanks for visiting; I need those hits :love4:

Well, the process of making a movie is very important. If nobody is even donating $1, then I need to change my approach.

Perhaps you can help me with a suggestion as to who might play the part of the Samaritan woman. I don't know which agency to call. I'm trying to pull a CORRADO here!

I need the cast before I choose the premise, write the script and roll cameras! Help!

Taking money under false pretenses is shady no matter how you phrase it.

If you're proposing to folks that they can participate in you making a project, selling them on the idea of them wanting to see the project, and then you divert their good-faith contributions to some other purpose -- that's just wrong no matter how you slice it.

Might want to re-think that.
