Thought I would share my experience filming and producing a cooking a cooking show web series. Happy to answer any questions or take any feedback as this series is ongoing.

Some of the gear I'm using and how I use it:
- C300MKII with a Sigma 18-35.
- Profoto 1200W HMI with a Narrow Beam reflector
- 72in Profoto Diffusion Disc
- Convergent Design 7Q+ capturing 4K off the C300MKII to Prores 422.
- PortaJib Traveler w/ Manfrotto 536 Sticks
- Audio is a lav that you can see in the shot most of the time since we are running audio straight to camera (no soundman)
The first thing you'll probably notice is that the windows are completely blown out. I placed Rosco #102 on the windows to encourage this. The two biggest reasons for this is because (1) filming lasts all day and the light is constantly changing & (2) reflections are eliminated off the glass because I tape it to the inside which keeps reflections out of the shot.
Everything is lit with one light which is the HMI bouncing off the ceiling then thru the silk reflector giving our talent a beautiful eye-light and no ugly under-neck shadows. There is also a small 2x2 Kino setup off camera right giving the background over the microwave a slight constant fill.

The Jib is an invaluable tools from switching between head level and overhead. The PortaJib is perfect for small cramped spaces. I know I'm pushing my Manfrotto 536 sticks but they hold it rock steady.

The only way this shoot works is that we are filming in 4K with the C300MKII. Having the ability to punch into such a clean image is wonderful. I shoot in CLOG-2 and rate the camera at ISO 250. This keeps my shadows incredibly clean and noise free.

A few things I would improve on if I could would be:
- My focal length. Most of the time I'm at about 28mm. Ideally I would like to be 4-6 more feet back on a 50mm to compress my BG a bit more, but I'm limited with a wall that is directly behind me.
- I also think a second camera angle handheld at a 45 Degree angle from subject would be a nice touch to add a little more realism to the shoot.
- A hard source coming scraping the background like a Source4 with a gobo would be nice for texture
- Finally some stipple/bead board off camera left to give talent some more shimmer in her hair.
After filming 5 episodes so far I completely understand why filming on sets, or in bigger houses, is wonderful. But it is a luxury.
