I had my GH2 set at 1080i and played the footage back and had lines in the footage. For example when I move the camera to a corner of a box lines start rolling on the edges in the footage in playback same with a shirt lines appear around the edges. Then when i switched it to 1080p cinema mode the footage was great. Whats going on with 1080i ?

A lot of people myself including have not liked 1080i over the years, with my previous canon T2i/550D it recorded 25P and the footage was smooth,in the 6 months i have had my GH2 i have used 24P and 72OP,the trouble with 24P in pal areas is the jerky motion so for me its soley on a tripod and let whats being filmed do any moving and even then it has a jerky look,720P looks ok but compared to 24p and 1080i the lower resolution is a big loss, recently i have started useing 1080i and i liked it the slight less resolution is there but on mine the footage is clean with none of the effects you are getting and its cleaner than 24P as well so we get the exact opposite strangely.

A lot of artifacts people see on their computer screens have nothing at all to do with the camera that recorded the file, BUT MUCH to do with the software and computer that is playing the file.

Some playback software deinterlaces interlaced files automatically (and poorly) on others you can influence how the software deinterlaces (or keeps it interlaced), then there are the factors of screen/latency/rendering issues...

Have you tested your "strange" 1080i file on a different computer/screen/beamer? Or with different software-player? Playback directly from the camera via HDMI? That will tell you something about where the problem may lie...

good luck, ninetto

That is true when you are talking about watching the raw files whether from the camera and hdmi or strait from the chip captured files. My 1080i are fine.
