C100: File Stitching Problem...Please Help

Took my C100 on its maiden voyage and shot two 30 minute speakers. Both times, the camera created three files: Two just under 2GB and a third well under 2GB. I'm okay with that but when I bring the files into CS6 on Win7 to edit, they don't join seamlessly. There appears to be at least one dropped frame and even worse, you can hear the cut. This just won't do for my long form (sometimes as long as 90 minutes at a time) recording.

I couldn't find anything in the manual about a 2GB filesize limit but there sure seems to be one. I'm hoping I have something set up wrong...praying actually. I haven't loaded the utility that came with the camera yet...I'll try that tomorrow. I just used a USB3 dock and copied the STREAM folder onto my hard drive.

I sure hope I'm being stoopid and somebody can set me str8.

:(

You have to use Media Browser to import the clips. If you navigate to the .MTS files manually in Explorer and add them to Premiere that way, you will have the condition that you are experiencing. Use Media Browser to import the files and all will be good.

Thank you very much Gary! I just copied the .MTS files to my hard drive with Explorer and imported them into CS6 PP (Win7) with the import pull down. I've never used Media Browser before...

Would the Pixela Data Import Utility that came with my C100 stitch seamlessly as well? Can I use it with a USB3 Dock or must it be connected to the C100? Is 2GB really the largest file AVCHD 24 will record? I'm going to have sooooo many seqments in a long recording!

I just tried it using CS6 Media Browser and the exact same glitches exist at each "stitch". This is horrible and I'm really scared...I have a ton of long form recording to do next week and I h8 to imagine how many "glitches" there will be in a 90 minute recording...every 2GB (or 11:22:15 or so) I suppose. My life is ruined if this can't be fixed.

Well, you first shouldn't have simply copied the .MTS files to your hard drive. You have to preserve the file structure of the card contents intact for Media Browser to do its thing. If you still have the card as it was originally recorded, I would do another copy, preserving everything as it is under the root. Never, ever, ever simply copy the supposed "video" contents.

I have no idea about the Pixela Data Import Utility, as I never use any of the tools that come bundled with cameras because I've never needed them for anything.

2GB is the largest file size that will be recorded because of limitations of the file system of the card. There is no way around this.

Again, Media Browser will import your entire length as one single clip if you will import it correct with the entire contents of the card intact. I do it all the time, never had an issue.

Thank you Gary!!!! It seems that I only need the PRIVATE folder because Media Browser found the file(s) when I accessed PRIVATE and imported one file just as you said. Wonderful!!!! Problem solved.

I wonder how I'll be able to deal with so many files with the same name? Can I rename PRIVATE to XYZ_MEETING (or something meaningful)? Any tips on renaming?

I do seem to be running in to some extended file interpreting that is causing pregnant w8s while trying to playback the timeline. It could be because I got impatient and tried some renaming silliness. CS6 is having trouble with shuttleing through the file...especially when I skip to the 2GB join area. The screen just freezes but the audio plays fine. The CS6 interpreting progress icon isn't visible. It's as though it is still interpreting even though it shows to be done. IDK...just odd.

Again, TYVM for your help and patience.

Make a folder for your project "Project xyz" and copy the private folder into that folder.

WD but I have a full day's worth of speakers...several days in total...each speaker needing their own folder. This is going to get intricate (or am I overcomplicating things?).

It's not complicated at all. You just need one per card. "xyz shoot day 1 card 1" "xyz shoot day 1 card 2", etc. If you import the folder "xyz shoot day 1 card 1" it will create that folder name into premiere with the footage files ready to edit in each folder. You need separate folders for each card in the editing program anyhow, since they are named as numbers you would have duplicates importing 3 cards without doing it this way.

Indulge me...I'm a total dullard. Are you saying I should have an SDHC card for each speaker? I had really planned on getting most all of Day 1 pre-lunch onto one 64GB card, transferring that during lunch and using it again for the rest of the day. Maybe I could create a bin in CS6 for each speaker and keep their files in there. Can you nest speaker bins inside morning and afternoon bins inside the Day 1 bin?

OK, did a little testing and yes, you can nest bins in bins in bins so that might be a good way to do this from the CS6 perspective. I'll just need to organize the PRIVATE folders into Day1 Morning and Day1 Afternoon directories I guess...unless anyone has a better way to do this.

No, I'm saying you don't need to create a folder for each speaker, just for each card. When we record speakers, I'll record as much as I can to one card and create folders like I outlined above. Once you import the footage from each card into your editor you can access the files as needed. A 64 gig card should carry you most of the day shouldn't it?
