FFMPEG now officially supports Magic Lantern Video

Perhaps you can explain the consequences of this new event?
If I understand correctly it means that .MLV will be added to many quicktime libraries, meaning that most conventional viewers will now be able to preview the rushes.
However, does it also mean that we can transcode more easily with conventional tools?
