FF VG900 hands-on !

The resolution and detail are just pathetic. Awful. I could shoot side by side with my old canon 550d and you will notice no difference. Well maybe that's too harsh but a first generation NEX is equal to this.
LOL!!! Looks any bit as sharp as when he mentions that they shot the guys talking to camera with the FS700. Look at A99 feild test at the 7:03 mark. Look at those images, then look at the test images. About the same looks to me.

You came to that conclusion based on Youtube videos? Really? How about waiting for uncompressed files before passing judgement.

And your 550d or 1st gen Nex will not touch the new Sony FF sensor as both gets spanked by the EM5's m43 sensor, and the A99 is likely just a FF version of that sensor. Please.

Handycam NEX-VG900 First Impressions Review

The new Full Frame CMOS sensor on the NEX-VG900 is the big story here. The 23.3-megapixel Full Frame chip on the VG900 means the camcorder has a sensor more than twice the size of the APS HD CMOS found on the NEX-VG20, and roughly 45 times larger than the 1/2.88-inch chip found in Sony’s high-end consumer Handycams, like the HDR-PJ710V. It’s also the first Sony camcorder to feature a Full Frame image sensor. Clearly, this is a huge deal.

As that photo shows, the E-mount can fit FF sensor. Sony always kept that as an option back when they were designing the mount 2 years ago. There was far more space than an APSC sensor would require.

Funny how many armchair "experts" were claiming it's not possible to fit FF sensor in e-mount -

it does mention that when an e-mount lens is used it reverts to s35 crop mode

Jordan Drake from The Camera Store shot some VG900 footage, starting at 08:53 in the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjEwsnwbwbs

It looks pretty good to me, better than I've seen from the Nikon D4 or D800.

What does everyone think? Does the VG900 use line skipping or pixel binning to scale down its 25Mpel sensor?

I'm so glad they finally decided to allow the videographer to adjust Gain (in 3db increments) on the external scroll wheel.

Having said that, this camera still begs the question:
1) Why 24MP for a video camera?
2) Why restrict aperture to a maximum of F3.5 in autofocus mode when using A-Mount Lenses?
3) Why have the HDMI-out inside the middle of the hand grip?
4) Why not have built-in XLR-inputs?
5) How accurate is the touchscreen LCD monitor in representing exposure. The NEX-FS100's LCD was horrible at doing this!

Optimistically I now see Canon and Panasonic(!) (maybe Nikon?) producing a similar product. Also optimistically I see an NEX-FSx00 version of this with a "Super-35mm FF" sensor that perhaps will have no more than 8MP on the sensor for better low-light and grain structure. I hope they keep the dedicated Gain dial!

I just received the two PK-NEX adapters and put one on an older FF 20mm MF lens with aperture ring and the new PK-NEX adapter with aperture ring on my 10-24mm Tamron PK mount lens. I guess it will be a few months before the VG900 ships but at least I have the adapters I need for my many PK lenses. I do plan on getting the Zeiss 24mm F2.0 and 135mm F1.8 Sony A mount lenses.

So I'm confused now, seems like there's conflicting information popping up (which I'd blame mostly on Sony releasing 456 different cameras within the space of a week!).

Is the HDMI output uncompressed? And how much manual control does it offer for frame rate, shutter angle and ISO/Gain?

Till now, none video showed make think this camera will be good, videos look very cheap for what must be or created with any camera, nothing special so far, and is sad because i have high hopes with the A99/VG900 cameras.

This movie was completely shot by the NEX-VG900.

this is one weird and brutally ugly camera. honestly id be embarrassed to use it in public. DR leaves a lot to be desired as well. IQ is fair aside from lack of DR. to be fair its DR doesnt seem worse than a bundle of other cameras. its just getting to the point that i think we should be seeing more in current crop of cameras.
