There's this: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=133986

But each field mixer is different, and you need to make sure that you know:

- what gain staging is, and how it can make or break your sound
- the difference between averaging meters and PPM meters
- the difference between T-power and phantom power (never send T-power to anything that is not made for T-power, or you can fry said device)
- how, when, and why to use a mixer's built-in limiter function
- how to match the mixer's outputs to the camera's inputs

Of course, there's a whole lot more, but those are the beginning basics for field mixers. Get the DVD, maybe even download the manufacturer's manual if you're looking at a particular mixer. See how intuitive you think it is.

In addition to C2V's suggestions, you might find the book "Location Audio Simplified" by S. Dean Miles useful. It covers many aspects of location audio for video, including general mixer setup and operation. (Also some excellent dicussion on microphone types and selection, lav rigging, boomng techniques, etc). Also recommended, Jay Rose's "Producting Great Audio for Digital Video."

Companies like Sound Devices often have downloadable owners manuals on the website (scroll down the link above to the mixers).

Probably best to download and read the one for the mixer you are thinking of - that's what I often do when I'm about to buy a new audio product.
