I'd recommend you/your photographer had a look at the "Being cinematic" thread in the Cinematography forum. There's a lot of basic info on good framing and stuff that I think you'd benefit from reading. Other than that though the acting looked interesting, nice makeup in the opening shot and the words with their definitions were a clever touch.
I hate responding to criticism cause I hate being defensive but here goes. What in particular is misframed to you? I dont see much as almost all shots hit the 3rds. But I will let you know some shots (not many here) were purposefully shot "wrong" to feel awkward. Plus its all handheld.
Im the director of this. It was shot by a Chicago DP. Both are graduates of Columbia College Chicago in film/video.
Thanks for the interest.
I think it's perfectly ok to question criticism! Especially if you find it wrongful. What I'm able to tell from the photography is that what is in the teaser, and it may very well be that the shots "feel wrong" to me simply because they're out of context.
The one at 0:45 felt cropped - The poor woman is being cut in half and struggles to peek out from her lower halv of the left corner. And the shot at 0:50 - I was taught not to cut people off at the joints (Knees in this example). And then the actor walks right into a waist-cut. Again, it might be all about the context, I'm just explaining what I meant by my words on the framing. 0:59 is very high, looking down, and both actors are over-exposed as they enter the sunlight (Where the shot appears to end), had me wondering why you didn't expose for the sun. 1:03 starts at an ankle-cut, but the camera operator adjusts the framing as the shot reaches its end. 1:18 is very high considering it's the woman who's framed (feels like we should be watching the boys). Then we cut to.. yeah, that woman just devours everything - But that has to do with the editing of the teaser and not the framing![]()
Hope this helps you understand what I meant - Again it might be all about the context and you're free to either agree or disagree
