Feature film shot with 7d?

7D VS Rebel:
Go 7D for the following reasons:
better monitoring: t2i goes wonky when recording if using an HD monitor
better iso increments
better batteries
more 'pro' build quality
you can sell it after using it and it will hold more value.

Your other choice as of today is a 5d2 - better audio recording onboard now, now does 24p, and a higher MTF (it would appear) to hold more detail when looking very close. This is coming from a 7D Lover.

Re: shoulder rigs:

google gini rig. Or gini.1980 on eBay.

Lenses: get used manual focus nikkors or contax zeiss.

If you are REALLY SERIOUS about this movie Then email me directly about using a HotRod Cameras PL 7D and rent Cooke S4s, zeiss primes or red pro primes. I've got everything for a feature (mattebox, filters, rig) because I've done 3 on canon dslrs so far.

Real pro lenses make the biggest difference in handling.

Re: cards - doesn't matter between the 133x and 400x for these cameras. The 400x might download to your computer faster.

Seems to me you feel threatened by the T2i. Better everything even value? The T2i right now is actually selling more than what people paid for it. Second the T2i and 7d both use the same cropped sensor.

You can read any blog or review and basically find out that the T2i compares about 90+% equally as the 7D. The extra $700 would better be used on lenses or several other things regarding film making. Any new user would not buy the 7d over the T2i right now.

This is not true. Also "same sized" sensor is different from "same" sensor. :)

But anyways to the OP to save money you can get the T2i. It has "just about" the same picture as the 7D. As someone mentioned there's also the 5Dll which has a nice picture also...but a bit more $$$$. You can't go wrong with any of them cause thier images are so close to one another that you really couldn't tell them apart if they were used in the same project. The 5Dll is the bigger sensor however and has a slight low light advantage. I think you looking at these DSLRs are a much better route than the HMC150/adapter IMO. To me adapter footage has a distinct "look" to it...while at the same time DSLRs have been known to have their own look. But I think the naked DSLR/HMC150 would mix better than Naked HMC150/adapter.

.....

Anyways....
I'm just so new the to DSLR world I'm nto sure what lesnes do what ect.. Anyone have any recomendations. I've described a bit of what the majority of our movie will consist of but ill say it again.

Takes place in a beach town, very dialogue driven, many scenes following a few people who are engaged in a conversation (im assuiming i still havnt read the guys script all the way) a few scenes at a busy beach focused on only a few characters. another big part takes place at some house party at night, and a scene of the couple going down a steep hill on bikes.

We are using a glidecam HD4000 with the x-10 setup for alot of this film, of course tri-pod as well.
For my DOF i wont be doing alot of rack focusing,(maybe for a few shots) just mainly could deal with a large area in focus on our characters and the background all out of focus. I'm concerned about the bike scene as we will be follwoing them going down the hill pretty fast and i want the houses behind them to be out of focus ect while keeping them in that critical clear area..

Bottom line i know little about lenses, and what they do different from each other. Lil shed of light would help..

Facts:

7D shows a letterboxed/pillarboxed HD signal in the correct aspect ratio on an HD monitor while recording. T2i does not.

7D offers iso increments in 1/3 stops including the iso's tested to be cleanest: 160,320,640. T2i does not.

7D offers white balance adjustment in 100 degree Kelvin increments. T2i does not.

7D has a magnesium alloy body. T2i plastic.

Can you shoot nice footage with a T2i? Yes.

Facts. Not blog speculation. Facts.

Don't take it from me though. I've only been us

Still if you're on a budget I think the extra 600-700 bucks should be spent on some quality glass. In a controlled environment, you should be able to get great results from the T2i. If you have the money for a 7d I say go for that but if you're trying to stretch a dollar and only using it for video, it is a no brainer.

and ive been hijacked... =(

well i went with 7d soyea..

dan i sent you a pm not sure if its working however.

Now im trying to figure out a rail system/matte box for the 7d.. Cant seem to figure that one out at all without going for a redrock setup which is 2.5k....... but comes with the follow focus. We will be mounting this on a HD4000 glidecam/X-10
and a tri-pod.

IMO this looks like something i see on tv and would never think that it wasnt shot on film, looks great IMO even if its only small part.
http://www.vimeo.com/10084276

Looks very good, shutter speed and cam movement feels like its tv series.
But its 7D,so in good hands this cam can look really amazing.
You can shoot feature film on 7D and it can look like shot on film but you have to know what youre doing.
Sound is not that good but picture looks fantastic.

Get a good wide lens. I suggest looking into the tokina 11-16mm. It has a fixed 2.8 aperature which is awesome. I also suggest looking into the Tamron 17-50mm lens, another great purchase for the $$. If you can afford it, I'd say grab the canon 85mm and also look into the following:

a 24mm prime
a 70-200mm
a 105mm prime
a 300 or 600mm (expensive)

These are just some of my preffered lenses but it's a matter of taste.

thanks jay. Yea currently all we will have is the canon 50mm 1.4. So I need to find us a wide lens and probably a 85mm. If i go with a tokina 11-16mm do i need some converting adapter?

Also what about ND filters.. we are going with this:
http://www.thecinecity.com/tcc/product.php?productid=119&cat=279&page=1

So i dont know wether to get ND filters for the matte box, or filters for the lens them selfs. Can the lens filters be used on all or do i have to indvidually buy a nd filter for my 50 mm 24 mm ect...
