FD lens and adapter help.

Hi everyone, I'm new to both DVX and the world of the GH2 and I have myself stuck in a certain predicament.

Primarily im a new and recent GH2 owner and i've heard FD lenses are the way to go for a affordable yet quality solution. I myself purchased the recommend Cannon FD 50mm f1.4 lens and a Micro 4/3 adapter to match off of ebay.

Sounds great? right?

I can't seem to honestly get my adapter to fit onto the lens!
I've also purchased a canon EF mount adapter and that seems to be working great (minus the aperture never closing)
So heres some of the things i've learned and maybe someone on here may have a solution to the issue I'm facing.

The lens I have is one of the "old mount" lenses with the silver twisting ring at the bottom.
I've tried mounting the lens while the adapter was both on the locked and unlocked points
I've tried mounting the lens while the silver breech ring was turned both all the way clockwise and counter
I've tried adjusting the levers in the back of the lens into various different positions to see if that would dove the issue. no luck.
i've tried turning the aperture to the lowest and highest values and still have no luck. (P.S. my lens close down further then f5.6 don't know if that means anything)
i've tried holding down the button near the green A, and still have not been able to fit it.

Maybe I'm lacking some serious technical skill here, but hopefully this is a "You don't know, what you don't know" scenario and not me having a defective lens or adapter.

Pictures of the Lens and adapter included below.
On the first picture I also circled a part of the lens that I can't seem to get to fit. Every time I try to attach this lens, the part where that piece is sticks up and I can't figure out how to get it go down/ or line up correctly.

Any advice give is appreciated
Thank you in advanced.

You need to twist the silver ring to center the circled item in an opening. The red dot on your adapter then lines up at that point so the notch on the adapter hits the circled item. It should then seat ok and then turning the silver ring while holding the adapter will lock it.

Thanks for the responses
Jerry, i've seen that video and I understand how it supposed to work, but in this case it seems not to be fitting correctly.
Heartfelt, I can't actually gets that piece to line up with the red dot. theres about a centimeter gap between the two that won't close. I'll be attaching a picture below showing the distance between the two.

The mechanism stops at this point and doesn't go any further clockwise.

I wasn't suggesting those line up, per se.
  • Looking at the lens, simply put that bump that you have circled in post one, photo one in the middle of an opening.
  • Looking at the adapter, find the female notch that matches the above bump. It is lined up on the adapter with a red dot on the adapter, post one photo four, near your forefinger nail. (top)
  • Put the two together and the adapt should seat into the opening and you should then be able to twist the ring to lock it in.
That is my best attempt to describe it. Hope it helps.

Thanks again for the responses.

I guess the lens may need repair because the bump that we've been speaking of will not center on any of the openings. No matter which way I turn the ring. When I turn it fully clockwise, it looks how I posted in the second post. Turning it fully counter clockwise leaves the bump under one of the closed sections and not a open gap.

Anyone know of any places that still repair FD lenses?

Gotcha and I have no idea on where to go. I have a 50mm 1.4 that needs interior cleaning and I haven't decided what to do with that lens either.

If you find a place, please post.
