FCPX vs C300 does it work?

So I Know C300 is MXF and I did a couple of tests in fact I can give you the link to download original MXF footage from c300, anyway I tried transcodinieg to pro res and everything else you can think of on some 3rd party program and while the file still looks ok it severally degrades from the original witch looks prestine almost like a raw RED file when MXF is viewed on vlc player, so is c300 only for adobe users?? or does some one have a solution when transcoded because at this point looks no better than 5D footage cant really color grade it like your supposed to with C-LOG they have on it, do I really have to use adobe???=( here is the clip that is for download http://vimeo.com/groups/c300/videos/35198347

hmmm...I just tried Sony XDCam Transfer and there seems to be a lot of moire in the footage (on his clothes) suddenly. Seems to be degrading the footage indeed.

Hmm. Interesting for sure, I converted the footage in XDCam Transfer and aliasing is more obvious in the Quicktime player. However when I compare VLC playback of both the original MXF and MOV I can't see the difference. The MOV wrapping shouldn't introduce any changes to the video quality. But then again...

Check out some of the XF posts, same issue. There are some work arounds for X. Canon should launch their plug-in update any day.

works great in FCP7. Didn't realize anyone was actually using FCPX

There is a lot of discussion about this. IMO FCPX sweeps the floor with FCP7. Other than OMF output and a HDSDI-preview-monitoring X does everything 7 did and much more much smoother. But that´s off-topic. There´s enough in the FCPX forums...

And you should know there are several apps the deal with OMF support for X , automatic ducks is free just to name one, and the blackmagic and Aja updates for X allow broadcast monitoring.

This $35 piece of software keeps coming up from canon users to transcode mxf to prores:

Canon just released the update for EOS Utility (so that it works with OS Lion). While that is of topic it shows that they are still committed to getting their proprietary software to work with Apple, so hopefully they will update their MXF plug ins for FCPX....

Well Automatic Duck for X is very unreliable at the moment (at least for us it is basically unusable and won´t be developed further) and the AJA and BM options right now beta and what I heard are laggy and stuttering video. So those things are not fixed yet.

I am looking onto that MXF converter and hope Canon brings a free version....

madison, these guys are talking about aliasing as a result of transcode - not on original footage.

The software probably thinks the material is interlaced and thus deinterlaces it. This will add a lot of aliasing and half the resolution. Check your fcpx or fcp7 settings.

You probably know this by now, but this week Canon released the XF Plugin for FCPX. Works great if you like FCPX.
