FCPX - like Vegas Pro?

Checking out the screenshots, if anyone has any info or even video of FCPX in motion I'd love to know how the new timeline works, if it's as fluid as Vegas Pro.

I've been a Vegas editor for years. I recently switched to Premiere Pro now that I'm on a mac. I've tried FCP in the past but not very impressed. It felt old and hard to edit with compared to Vegas which I was used to at the time. I'm more inclined to try FCPX now.

Any review from anyone on what it's like compared to Vegas Pro?

Thanks for the link. I've been looking around everywhere for a video of the whole presentation. But this will do nicely. :)

I am hoping the timeline behaves the same way. If so, heck yes.

Really all I have wanted for years now is Vegas running in an OSX environment.

Hey roxics,
I learned to edit on Vegas 4, and made a rough, disagreeable transition to FCP 6. I had to convert because of workflow issues, and the transition felt to me as you describe. I think Vegas is very fluid and agreeable. Take a look at the full presentations on FCP X here:

My guess is it will be a much easier transition for you from Vegas to FCP X. Compared to Vegas, FCP 6/7 is clunky, not intuitive, poorly organized, buggy, and slow (read: rendering). FCP X seems to finally have fixed most of those issues.

I was at the Supermeet and the moment the UI came up on the screen, I thought that looks like Vegas! The editing demonstration confirmed my thoughts. I edit on Avid, FCP, Premiere, and Vegas... my favorite program for years has been Vegas, but it may become FCPX.

I was on the front row of the supermeet and recorded the entire demonstration in HD. Here is the link: http://vimeo.com/22355212

Still lots of questions, but for a Vegas user in a Mac world...this looks VERY promising.

The OP asked "if anyone has any info or even video of FCPX in motion I'd love to know how the new timeline works, if it's as fluid as Vegas Pro."

We are not talking about Vegas marketing decisions or whether Vegas had FCP X features 108 months ago.

The question related to how the new timeline works in FCP X and if it is as fluid as Vegas Pro.

Stop the noise and stay on topic.

Note as well that FCP X has yet to be released, and what was provided to date has been short demo of about 20 minutes of a beta that existed two months ago.

I wonder what the compatibility with the older FCP Studio will be like with programs like Compressor and DVD Studio Pro, Color..etc.

I've seen reports, all unsubstantiated, that large parts of Compressor and Color have been folded into FCPX.

That being said, the demo was of a beta build that was completed two and half months ago, and my guess is additional functionality and refinement is still being added.

I don't believe any external beta pool will occur, so what will be forthcoming in June will be as much a surprise as what was seen last week.
