C200: FCPX 10.4.9 - "Significant Performance Improvements for Canon Cinema RAW Light"

Try using something else than your RAID (although TB is fine)...see if it helps. (I always copy cards to my SSD during shoots and import later, so that shouldn't matter.)

But also wondering if newer CRL is somehow handled differently than C200's.

I thought so too! But it’s not allowing me to do that. I’m wondering if it’s because my RAID is over Thundrbolt or something? I copied the entire card structure over to a folder on the RAID so I’m wondering if that could be it??

if FCPX sees the copy as a card it treats the copy like a genuin card and greys out the option "leave in place". You can attach the card itself and then use the import function. In the library setting you can define any place where your media is stored and this is where FCPX copies your files.

Here's what I do:
- I have 4 naked 3,5" 6TB hard drives for card back up. Only card backup nothing else. Before I do anything I make a copy of my cards via HEDGE onto this drive
- I never store my media in the library. I have a project folder on my RAID, it contains DATA RENDERS AUDIO SCRIPT GRAPHICS etc folder plus the FCPX library. I attach the card and import all from the card via FCPX into the DATA folder. Transcode if neccessary.
- I never ever format cards before I have a copy via HEDGE on a hard drive. A complete copy of the whole card.
- I re-use the 3,5 hard drives after a while but not before the projects on these drives are completely finished.

YMMV but I can tell you having a copy of a card is a lifesaver from time to time.
For shootings that take longer than a day I have even a form with a checklist on my clipboard to make sure all cards are copied.

Thanks everyone! I’m just wrapping up for today so I will try these options out tomorrow and report back what happens to work for me...that way if anyone needs the info later hopefully it’ll help out.
