FCP6/External HD Question

Hi, I normally transfer my P2 info to an external HD through P2CMS and then import the files into FCP6 to edit but in order for that to happen, FCP needs to log all of the files and copy them to my Mac's internal HD. Is there a way to skip the process of copying the files to the Mac's internal HD and just run it straight off the External HD to save space on my computer?

Thank you.

2 ways.

Purchase Raylight, scan the external and import the .mxf.mov it creates (very fast, very easy, will make your workflow much quicker).

- Or -

Create a Folder on your external called "Final Cut Pro Documents" and set your capture scratch to that folder.

Either way, you should try to avoid running your operating system off of the same drive as your capture scratch. Reading/writing HD from a HDD takes a lot of band width.
