FCP to Tape? Is it possible?

Can a Final Cut Pro sequence but recorded back to tape using the XH A1? If so how? And please only answer yes, if this is something you have actually done and therefore know for sure this is possible. Thanks guys. :)

Yes.

When you play back an HDV 24F sequence recorded to tape (using the A1 in VTR mode) it will display "HDV 24F". Other than the render time to conform a sequence, it works a lot like a DV print to tape.

I have noticed a bug and perhaps I'm simply not doing something the right way. When I hit Print to Video, everything renders to conform to HDV, then I hit record on my A1 in VCR mode and the A1 tells me I need to check my connection with the computer. If I then hit "OK" on the G5, I'll see an image on the A1 and recording works perfectly.

When I am in VCR mode it does not let me record? Does anyone know what setting I need to switch my camera over to? Thanks. oh and what is VTR mode and how do you get to it?

I'm guessing the boards are not getting a lot of views like in the winter, because the responses are hard to come by... anyone know who the guy is that had the Kool-Aid Guy as his picture... he was great for answering questions.

I'm guessing your problems may be due to a couple of possibilities:

1--You have downconversion set to "On" and that will interfere with HDV PtV's from Final Cut.

2--You have the camera set to DV mode under the "Signal" setup menu item.

Basically, if you make sure that the signal standard is set to HDV or auto and you have downconversion turned off, when you start up a FCP HDV 24F project with the "HDV 1080 24p Easy Preset" enabled, the computer should detect the camera and you're good to go. Remember, the camera has to be in VCR/Play on the mode wheel. If you get an error message on FCP start up that the device wasn't detected, you might consider doing the aforementioned items, but maybe even play some HDV footage back while the program launches so that the camera is FOR SURE sending out the HDV signal.

Essentially, if the computer can capture the HDV footage, it can also print back to tape. Try doing everything above and if you go to the capture window and you're able to control the camera and capture footage, you can also go back out to tape.

Hth.
