Fcp Sequence Settings Help

I am an artist and wannabe film maker but I have very little know-how on the technical side of things.

I have a HVX200 and was wondering what the best sequence setting might be in FCP.

I want to get a "film look" and planned on shooting 720p 24. So when I use an easy setup I am editing at 23.98. Does this mean I can not use any fx footage that may be at 29.97fps? If so, and I change the sequence setting to 29.97 does that mess up my 24fps footage?

In addition to that, when I playback using "all frames" the image is jumping all over the place in the camera. I feel like I set it up as shown but have no real idea why it is doing that.

I am totally confused on the best way to set this up.

It sounds that you do not have an experience with FCP.

The best way is to start with the tutorials, and then read everything here you can.

But coming here with a very basic question isn't the way to go at least in my view.

Film look involves frame rate, good lighting, and a shallow DOF.

Out of the box, it's tough to get shallow DOF with the HVX without an adapter

As to sequence setup, the easy set up for DVCProHD 720/24p works with footage shot 720/24pN.

If you import 29.97 in that sequence is will have to be rendered.

Don't know what you are referring to with the comment: "when I playback using "all frames" the image is jumping all over the place in the camera . . . ."

Might want to detail what that means

Sorry for the basic question, I'm a bit overwhelmed right now and not explaining myself very well. By "film look" I meant shoot in 24fps rather than 30 or 60.

I have been using FCP for awhile but it has been with a DVX and VX2000 with a simple DV-NTSC setup shooting 480i 24p and works fine. Now that I am getting into HD it is a little overwhelming since I am using FCP 4.5 and can't take advantage of the P2 import. Instead I am using a firestore FS-100 saving clips in their Quicktime format.

As for the "playback", I'm refering to when my timeline is running and I am using my camera through the firewire to playback the image in the cameras lcd. In FCP under "view" and "external video" there is an "all frames" button. I have always used this to see my footage playback to check for interlacing issues with stock fx footage over my own footage. When I do this with the 720 timeline it jumps around/flickers although I have the video playback set for DVCPROHD. Could this be a FCP 4.5 issue or am I doing something drastically wrong?
