How do you put sub titles in different languages in to a project in FCP..
The master project will be in English but my client wants to have different language subtitled for distribution.

LOL! My friend, you're looking for magic wands (software that does work for you). Filmmaking is labourious craft that needs time and dedication. Look through manuals and tutorials to learn how subtitling works. To translate your subtitles your best choice is to hire a translator who is able to translate your dialogue and maintain emotion. Your cheapest, free, option is to use web based translation tools. They can translate language but that's no guarantee that human emotion will be transferred across too.

I further agree with that.... Then you can do your subtitles as DVDSP subtitle options if you are making it into a DVD...

I've done it a couple of times... I've given the translater a DVD with a window burn for them to log the translation side by side with that running TC...

A lot of work for sure!

And make sure you explain to the client that this will cost a lot of money. Don't let him put it on YOU to do it cheap. It's his need!

You can help him find translators as a kind gesture, but he needs to understand there is no "easy button" that does this.
Good luck.

also.. if you need this to be Closed captioned.. then that's really really expensive. I checked up on getting it done and it's hundreds of dollars for every minute that's CC...
The softwear to DIY is also really expensive...

Well, for translation, I find the best approach is to use the free TitleSheet (http://www.wieriks.nl/dvdtools/) for subtitle entry, then pass off a spreadsheet (or Word document with a table, which can easily be converted to/from Excel) to the translater to edit. This minimizes the effort of getting subtitles into the proper format and timed....

Thanks Guys,,
I understand about the translation and having it done right...
But what i need to know HOW TO DO IT...
This is a coprporate project that i have to do in order fro me to make money so I can do the fun and creative filmmaking....
I am asking for the technical side of this...
I am having the client translate the docment word for word...
Or do I have DVD Studio Pro do it?
Someone suggested not to have DVD Studio Pro do it...
I'm sorry but right now I need to get this done...
Later on I'll be more thank happy to discuss why ...
Thanks,,,
Ray

You'd do sub-titles in DVD Studio Pro. Then create a menu that will allow the user to pick a language. I think you'd actually use the closed-caption option for it, not sure.
