FCP Multicam Locking up

I'm used to HDV. I'm doing my first 2-cam multicam in FCP:

1. Log and Transfer'd sdhc cards (which I *assume* transcribed them to Prores)
2. Synced them into the timeline
3. Created and edited multicam
4. Verified clips are Prores 422
(Item Properties/Format/Compressor reads Apple Prores 422)

Is Prores 422 heavy enough to choke an MacPro 8core 3Ghz w/ 9GB memory? Am I somehow still in AVCHD?

Hey,

I don't know what the problem could be. I'm on a Macbook Pro 17" (2.5GHZ Core 2 Duo, 4GB Ram, 7.2k Drive, 512MB Geforce) and I was able to do a test multicam edit.

Transcoded to Prores 422. Selected the in points. Selected the clips and clicked "make multiclip". Dragged that into a sequence. Clicked on the preview pane and changed the the sync to OPEN. Started playing the timeline and clicked the different angles. Worked fine.

Not sure what to tell you...

What do you mean by 'Locking up'? Yes your system should be fine for that.

Verify both of your clips are the same resolution/codec in your browser.

Be sure you are following the steps for multicam work properly, and have 'Multiclip Playback' check in your RT dropdown menu.

FCP won't multicam unless it's the same format. Every time I've tried doing anything with multiple formats it gave me a message box.

I think the problem is that I'm running a firewire 400 external that is nearly full. I didn't think of that. I tested some similar footage on my internal and it multicam'd fine.

It sounds like I may need to abandon internals and buy 1tb internals, archiving the old ones.

With three available drive carriers in the MacPro, why use a FW400 external for a multicam edit with pro res?

Seagate 7200.11 run under $80.00 for 500 GBs and will provide a 105 MB/s write read
