FCP - Macbook Air - P2 Transfer USB? How?

Hello,

I've been using the HPX170 for a couple years now on my Macbook Pro with FW just fine. I recently switched to a Macbook Air as it's lighter and suddenly realized that the HPX won't ingest the footage through USB into FCP. Freaking stupid.

Anyways, does anyone have a walkthrough explaining what I now need to do just to get my footage off the P2 cards and into my laptop?

I guess I now need to drag over files and then do some other rigamarole instead of just digitizing like normal into FCP.

I really appreciate any info or referrals to articles explaining the simplest and safest solution.

Thank you so much!
Frank

can the mac book air handle editing in finalcut? I didn't think it had enough horsepower under the hood. Assuming you bought the best one you only have 2.13ghz core 2 duo, 4 gigs of ram and a mobile 320 gfx. If your editing HD i would stick with your Mac book Pro. The air is a great laptop, but its not designed for editing. Just my 2 cents.

While a MacBook AIR is not ideal, DVCproHD is realativly easy on processors. Some of the more compressed new HD codecs I would not be surprised if it hung up often with, but DVCproHD is not too bad. I have seen people cut it on less. I would not want to transcode AVCHD footage with it though, or work with other codecs. But for working native DVCproHD footage, it should be workable.

Tried it, and to be honest, it took FCP about three minutes to open.

Then faster after that.

DVCProHD footage needed rendering for just about any edit. No optimal
