FCP Log & Transfer Problems

Log & Transfer in FCP 7 hangs when I select a "longer" file--in my case more than 30 seconds of 1080/24p. It will not appear in the L&T viewer, or the top half of the image appears in the viewer with the bottom half green. If I try to go ahead and transfer the file, I get an error message. I thought it was a RAM issue, but when I upgraded to 6GB from 2GB, it didn't make any difference. I'm running a MacPro. The Private folder I'm logging has a lot of files (over 150) and I don't know whether that's taxing L&T. I'm having no problems with shorter files in the folder that are less than 20 seconds long.

Has anyone experienced this? Will using Toast to do the transfer to ProRes 422 get around this problem?

FCP Log & Transfer Problems

I searched under System Preferences and I don't have Perian installed on my machine.

I have a Mac Pro Tower 1.1 2.66 GHZ. I'm using OS 10.6.4 and FCP 7.0.2. All the files play just fine in the AVCCAM Viewer. As I mentioned I have 6 GB of RAM. The files are 1080/24p and I'm trying to transcode them to ProRes 422 (HQ). The files I'm having problems with hang before they can even be displayed in the Log & Transfer viewer. When I force quit, the error file clearly indicates that the application is hanging.

Log & Transfer Problem

I fixed the problem by reloading the Private folder to another (external) drive. I get the feeling that the L&T feature in FCP is a bit squirrelly to say the least.

Actually sounds like your hard drive is having issues. One of my older drives a Western Digital, has been experiencing hanging issues. I was using this drive as my scratch, and would get frequent hangs in FCP. I then was dropping some large files onto it in the finder and having hangs as well. I have a feeling there is a read/write speed issue with it, as using anything slower the FW800 doesn't seem to cause this issue.
