FCP Imported MXFs in Win

Mark Harris

Pain in the ass
Sorry. I searched but did not find anything on this and wasn't exactly sure how to rephrase the search.

But someone gave me some QTs from the MXFs he imported into FCP.

When I try to play these on Win, I can hear the sound, but cannot see the image. I assume this is a codec issue. Is that right? And what do I do?

I have that. Doesn't play them. Tells me I need some more software to play and sends me to an apple page with about 12 products listed but fails to tell me which one to get...

Apple doesn't include DVCPro50 or DVCProHD support in the Windows version of QuickTime, it doesn't matter if you have QuickTime Pro or not.

You need something like the Raylight Decoder (not the same thing as Raylight) to play/open these files under Windows.

Urgh. Thanks. I have and love Rayight, but i don't think I have Raylight decoder. I think I will ask that person to use Compressor to run me off something I can use. Pass the buck :)

Try installing Panasonic's free Windows viewer. This puts the DVCProHD codecs on your PC...they use Direct Show, but I'll bet that will let you play back in Media Player.

Won't work; FCP Quicktimes simply will not work.

You can import them into EDIUS Broadcast, and I think you can import them into Avid. You could also try installing the Avid DVCPRO-HD codec, but I don't think that'll work...

The Raylight decoder is the seamless way to do it.
