Hi,

I am trying to export a dvcpro hd 720p25 sequence from final cut pro 6 for use with a PC, can anyone advise me on the workflow for this,

I need a near best quality export from fcp that can be used in my PC based programmes, cant really afford any more programmes for the mac, just got studio 2 so i also have the new 'compressor

the export same as sequence option from fcp6 wont open in windows due to the lack of dvcpro codec i think,

there must be a way to transfer a good quality file from mac to PC.......Help.........please

thanks

The Raylight Decoder should allow you to open DVCProHD QuickTime files on the PC.

A no-cost/low-cost option would be to export uncompressed. Obviously the files will be quite large, but at less than $0.50/GB, it is hard to beat.

Yup- animation codec or 10-bit uncompressed would be the highest quality direct from FCP to PC.

ok thanks,
what is the path to get a 10-bit uncompressed format? or the animation codec you mentioned? i am currently experimenting with divx which seems to offer quite high quality files but lots of compression,

thanks again

No way with divx- that's for web. Go file>export QuickTime Conversion from FCP. Then select 10-bit uncompressed as your codec and PCM as audio.

thanks noah,

that seems to work fine, however i now have another problem.............the file size is over 4gig so will not transfer to my fat32 external HD, i have a lacie formatted for mac use but that wont work on the pc........o dear, what a nightmare, any ideas how to overcome this large file transfer problem between mac and PC,

thanks everyone

any ideas how to overcome this large file transfer problem between mac and PC,

Network cable, dual layer recordable dvd ...first 2 that popped into my head .. if you have macdrive you can fire you mac up in target disk mode and connect via firewire

If the computers are in the same location I'd go with Look 1st's suggestion and transfer using a network connection.

Otherwise, will FCP break up the file automatically when it hits the 4GB limit if you are saving directly to the FAT32 volume? On some NLEs you can also set a maximum segment size (either in minutes:seconds or absolute file size) -- can FCP do that?
