FCP and HMC 150

FCP 6 and later on an Intel Mac will convert AVCHD footage to pro res or AIC.

So will:

Toast 9/10
VoltaicHD
VideoPierHD
Adobe Media Encoder

or you can use something like Neoscene for the Mac.

but for FCP 6, you need an Intel Mac in any case.

I use Toast 10 which works OK except for the audio issues. I have found that the audio is about 8 frames behind the video not to bad but still a pain. But if you want a program that offers DVD authoring and the ability to transcode basically to any format Toast 10 is a good option.

Ok. So if I have FCP6, the one included in FCS2, the files will be automatically converted when I log & tranfert, or I have to do it manually?

when you open log and transfer you will see the clips from the card, or you can ad a directory in your computer where you have your "Private" folder stored... select the files you want, pick the settings you want to transcode to (by the gear looking icon) and click "Add Selection to Queue" or just drag them down to the bottom left part of the screen! once you do that you will see a progress bar on the clip that's being transcoded... once the file is done, it will show up on your "Browser" window
Remember that all transcoded files go to your scratch folder/hardrive!

This workflow is detailed in the HD Formats pdf that is included with your install. About ten pages on how it's done.

Why not start there, and come back here with questions?

You are using a PC that you've installed the MacOS on?

If so, you are on your own.

I agree... Dump the MAC stuff, put Vista64 (with the free upgrade to Windows 7 64) on and CS4.1 so you can enjoy some real native file handling.

Oh, us PC guys will help you too.

=)

Man ATL, Drop the Dump Mac Stuff!!!

Albano there's support on forums for hackintosh, find out if your hardware is at fault... but it sounds like you don't have a lot of FCP experience, so maybe look into that first.

I currently have A G5 running next to my Quad 2.5 hackintosh, next to my MBP... and i could tell you that the Quad works just as good and just as reliable as the other ones next to it! I'm currently considering on building an i7 920 Hackintosh, but just waiting to see how stable Snow Leopard runs on it (witch comes officially out on friday, but people already got it running good on Hackintoshes)

like i said there's help out there if you know how to look!
