I have been editing with the same version of FCP 6 pretty much since its release. Recently the playback has been acting up to the point where editing has become nearly impossible. I cant watch any of my sequences for more than three seconds. I did some reading on the subject and read a lot about trashing the preference files and cleaning the disk. So, I go to trash my preference files and to my surprise there is no such thing. Also there is no folder labeled Final Cut Pro User Data, which I am supposed to find a number of files to delete.
Is this the problem? I don;t understand how I don't have this file. I even did a search for it and nothing came up.
I'm sure others have had playback problems on FC, what exactly did you do to solve this issue? I am about to order more ram for my mac and hope that works.
Also it is not the hard drive because i opened a different project from a different drive that contained the project file and media, and it does the same thing.
I'm confused, please anyone help........
Edit:
Ok, I found the files and trashed em. It booted up and did it's thing, I then followed someone else's advice and re-rendered the whole project. Nothing........ Secondly I have been editing through a USB splitter going to five hard drives, the files are not spread out on all five though, there only on two drives. Anyways, I unplugged them from the splitter and sent them right into my computer through firewire. Still not working.
Now what happens is it comes up with an error message that says this
"One or more frames were dropped during playback. If this frequently occurs, try
- Turning off Unlimited RT
Lower my compression data rate
Close open sequences
Lowering the preference for real-time audio tracks
-Increase the speed of my system and/or disk drives and/or network connection
it adds in red colored ink....
RT Extreme determined that it was caused by "slow discs" and that I should try:
-Increasing the speed of my disks
-Decreasing the number or RT layers
-Limiting my RT bandwidth in User Preferences
What could be the cause of this now?
