I'm editing one fcp 6 with a iMac picking up a Dslr this week and wasnt sure if fcp 6 could handle the footage. thanks!

FCP 6 will edit pro res. DSLR video must be converted to pro res for editing. It's always wise to identify which DSLR video you will be using.

You will need a 7200 rpm FW800 hard drive to store the video.

David S. is the FCP man. His knowledge is way above mine. That being said since you should always convert to something other then h.264 for FCP isn't every FCP since 4.5 an option for editing DSLR? I know ProRez is a no go but AIC is right or any HD that FCP 4.5 would edit. All I'm saying is any FCP that edits HD will edit DSLR, it just depends on what you covert it to.

im using the canon 60d.. I have a Lacie d2 quadra i use the firewire 800 always.

whats the best way to convert the dslr clips..also can i drag them into a folder and just convert?

1 more ? i was reading about the canon plug in used for log and capture...something like that ..any suggestions?

Thanks guys !!

Yeah you can use the Log and Transfer plugin Canon makes- I believe it works with FCP 6. Or you can load the clips into Compressor and export out to ProRes. Or set up a droplet in Compressor to automate this process= my preferred method.

Thanks Noah! What is the exact ProRes I'm looking for...I'm on the road traveling and do not have fcp in front of me

Take note that the EOS plug-in does not work with Mac OS 10.5.x. It will only function on Snow Leopard. I learned that the hard way.

Compressor works, or you can download the free MPEG StreamClip and use it to batch process.
