let me first start by saying i have no clue what i'm doing. i have a basic understanding of how camera's work and thats about it. my first problem was that i couldn't load any of the footage on to final cut 5. i did some research, watched some tutorials, switched around some settings and tried it again but now, the second problem, my computer doesn't even detect the camera. 1394 is set on external. PCmode is set to 1394device. the button on the back was set to pc mode. everything is done how everybody has recommended but now it says "1394 initial error" what do i do? there is speculation that my firewire is blown or whatever. is that likely? how much is a repair? is there a way of going around this without putting the p2 cards in a p2 card reader? can i use the usb? ahhh! this camera is so complex!

Which Mac are you using? Also which OS version? Are you using a 4 pin to six pin connect?
Does the cam show up as a Firewire device in the "About This Mac" system information pane?
