Great for Mac users. You hear that Avid? They can print back to P2 and to frame extractions from 1080i24p. Get on it!

It's been possible to print back to the camera since 4.5, but they didn't document it until 5.1.2.

Avid can print back to P2 the same way. It's not a P2 integration thing, it's just streaming firewire data back out the firewire port, and having the camera capture that firewire data.

Also, this FCP & Avid "writing-back-to-the-card-in-the-camera" workflow only works when using the camera as the card reader. You cannot print video back to P2 if you're using the card directly in a G4's slot, or through the 5-slot reader, or through an ExpressCard->PCMCIA adapter. It is the camera that's creating the MXF files from the streaming data; no other P2 reader device does that.

It doesn't control the camera, it doesn't do any sort of AV/C control, it doesn't create its own MXF files and write them out. Only EDIUS does that as far as I know, although there is another utility coming that will do that type of thing, but the new utility isn't Mac-based. If you want to get files back to a card, AFAIK the ony way to do it without the camera involved is to use EDIUS or use this new forthcoming utility.

Also, if writing back from the timeline to the card through FCP or Avid, you can't output 24pN style data, it can only output the 60fps version. So you can't output a 10-minute timeline to a 4gb card, you could only output a max. of 4 minutes to a 4gb card using this workflow.
