FCP 1080i Video Playback Issues

I imported 1080i 24PA HVX footage from FS-100. That went fine.

I dragged the footage into the timeline.

Not only did I have to render each clip I dragged into the timeline but I can't playback the footage. I can, but it stops and starts, like its putting a lot of stress on the system.

I have the AJA KONA 2 and a heavy duty HD editing system, so it should play back very smoothly.

I would think I wouldn't have to render un-edited clips that I drag into the timeline. And why is video playback not playing back smoothly?

Okay I changed the Audio/Video Settings >

to:

Sequence Preset: DVCPRO HD - 1080i60

Capture Preset: DVCPRO HD - 1080i60 48 kHz

Device: DVCPRO HD FireWire

Now it is playing back smoothly, but I still have to render each clip after I drag it into the timeline which is going to slow me down a great deal. Anyway to fix it so I don't have to render each clip after I drag it into the timeline? Thanks!
