Favorite Time of the Day and Why

Matt Grunau

There is something about the wee hours that are an almost magical time for me. After 12, the house has settled down, distractions are gone, and I find I can get my best work done.

I have always been rather sensative to sound, and love doing sound work. I am certainly no Dave Fisk, Yankee, MattC or MattSTL (not to mention many others in the audio section), but I ceratinly appreciate the role and unique challenges of audio.

When the house is quieted down, I can hear the little sounds of night: the now clear ticking of our wall clock, hums of equipment, and occasional singing of the wind chimes (they always seem to sound Harry Potter-ish). All those sounds combine and form the "quite time" backdrop, and my creativity blossoms.

Everything seems a little closer, and the lack of outside input allows my imagination to flourish.

What about you all?

I agree with the wee hours of the morn'. I got home from a trip at 3:30 this morning, and everything seemed to be dead silent outside. Which is rare for my part of town. I especially like it when I am camping. There's just something cool about knowing you are awake and concious when 90% of the outside world is sound asleep. My second most favorite time of the day would probably be mid-morning on a sunny day....awsome.

I'm a day person. I am also pretty fortunate because I'm able to tune out things around me and not be distracted by the things going on around me. I don't need to be in a specific room or place (now that I have my laptop) to be creative.

When I'm on a roll, I forget about time and even food. I've finished up working on something late at night and realized I'd forgotten to eat. But I never forget the caffeine

wee hours of the night for me too. ..and those crazy mornings when I get up really early (or just didn't sleep (normally this one)) are neat too.

Everything is so quiet and I feel like I'm watching over the world as it sleeps.

I am a night person for sure. After midnight I do my best work on the editor. I can stay up all night and be fine the next day. Also I would have to say magic hour, hour before the sun sets. The sun light is soft and all the colors are rich and viberent.

Wee hours of the night for me too, mostly because I can't get to sleep. Those pills don't work I tell's ya ! :)

There is something to be said for staying up late and there are reasons that being an early riser are great. Depending on what project(s) I'm working on will dictate which of those categories I fall into. Usually, I'm up late and, like others have said, it is quiet and fewer interruptions can lead to better concentration, but I feel like I'm behind the curve socially.

However, when forced to change my sleeping pattern due to work, I notice when I get up early I feel more alive and connected to the world. It can be inspirational to witness the sunrise and sunset each day. The news is fresh and not some late night rehash.

I agree. That's why my second favorite time of the day is my first cup'o jo in the morning. The whole day is ahead and planning it is half the fun.

Dawn and Sunset. Beautiful sunsets where I live. I try and time them with walking my dog. Went for about 5 or 6 miles this evening, I love Sundays.

One for the homies.

Boy I rest my case on that other point :)

RIP dude... I wish I knew your situation sooner... maybe I could have helped.

I came in to DVX late in 2006 so I missed this post but I'd say Matt was right on with that comment. I wish I had gotten to know him better.
