John, I NEVER SAID "HELP US"!!!!!!!

Casino, Joe Pesci, everytime he killed somebody(stabs with a pencil, with a guys head in vice)

"Pete Bottoms: Don't do that! Look, you asked me to act natural, and I'm acting as natural - in fact, under the circumstances, I think I ought get a ****in' Academy Award for how natural I'm acting. "

Good call on Pesci; Casino, Goodfellas. Yeah, pretty much every scene with him.

Intimidation:

The scene in American History X where the family is sitting at the table, and the mom has the Jewish teacher over for dinner. Right when Ed Notron flashes his tattoo and says "You see this? It means NOT WELCOME."

Damn, that was really intense. I love that movie.

Or how about the scene where he makes that guy bite the curb....then stomps the **** out of him. OOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWCCCHHHHHHHHHH!!!

I don't think he made it!!

That made my teeth hurt just watching it!!

~reservoir~

Wallace in Braveheart was a good call, however:

For intimidation/execution:

When his woman's tied to the pole and executed. The first time I saw that I almost freakin' cried --it was that intense. The whole time she's looking around for Wallace to save her, but he's got no idea. Damn! I hate even thinking about it. Part of the reason I think that it struck me is that it seemed so REALISTIC. History is brutal and that moment made me think of how the times were in the past. It reminded me of the book TIMELINE by Michael Crichton (the movie sucked ball sac)--it was so brutal and literally survival of the fittest.

Fight scene/ A$$ wooping:

I think the movie is called "Midnight Express", anyway, one dude beats the crap out of the other, biting his tongue out and spitting it across the room at the end...
That reminds me of The Big Lebowski where John Goodman spits the guy's ear into the air. A truly great comic fight scene.

"Are these guys nazis?"

"No Donnie, they're nihilists, they're harmless."

I'm really, really, really surprised no one has mentioned the dental scene in "Marathon Man" with Dustin Hoffman as the tortured and Lawrence Olivier as the Torturer. That has to be the most horrific torture scene in cinema history.

As for violence....I'd say the baseball bat beating scene near the end of "Casino" has to be the most brutal and violent celluloid ever shot.

I'd say the most violently brutal scene ever put on celluloid is the horrifically long rape scene in "Irreversible". Really tough to watch.

Ijp...just dropped a fried red pepper on my freakin keyboard, would ya look at that mess....Shite! Anyway...I hated it when they were shooting at the wolf in " Dances with Wolves"

Yea, Olivier in Marathon Man. I'm getting the heebies just thinking about it. I can't go into a Dentist's office without asking "Is it safe?" They usually don't think that's very funny.

If memory serves, the way William Peterson died at the end of To Live and Die in LA was pretty wild. Totally unexpected.

How can SCARFACE not be mentioned in this thread?

The bathroom chainsaw scene that ends with Pacino shooting homeboy in the street?

When Pacino has Frank and the Cop killed in the office after the failed execution?

Epic.

Great death scenes:

Darth Vader kills Obi-Wan (or does he?) in SW: ANH

Sonny Corleone gets gunned down at the toll booth in "The Godfather."

Bonnie & Clyde go down in a hail of gunfire at the end of "Bonnie & Clyde."

Norman Bates stabs Janet Leigh to death as she showers. "Psycho."

Oliver Reed (playing Father Grandier) is burned alive at the stake for defying Cardinal Richlieu in "The Devils."

Roy Scheider goes to the grave singing and dancing in the climax of "All That Jazz."

Robert Duvall ("the Director") is brutally murdered in "The Conversation."

John Hurt gives birth to a chest-bursting baby "Alien."

Spock succumbs to deadly radiation after saving the Enterprise in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan."

I dont know the name of the movie because I saw it when I was still being sent to bed in footie pajamas, but I remember it was about Marie Antoinnette's beheading. My mom had sent me to bed, but I hid in the kitchen off to the side where I could still see tv. They were just beginning to lead her thru the streets to the chopping block, and it seemed that lots of people didnt really want to do this, but that it was just necessary. She gets to the point where she is standing next to the executioner with her held held high and he offers her the hood, which she refuses. She takes a moment to look over the land in front of her, then kneels herself down and put her kneck on the block. But the executioner has to reposition her neck for best whackability, like he wants to make this clean and painless as possible. But after that, its like the camera went all POV on Marie. She saw the big basket below her face filled with blood-stained straw, ready to catch her falling head, the crowd at a tilt, cheering, some crying. Then you get an ECU of Marie's face, calm, eyes closed, kinda at peace, but then out of nowhere comes this awful muted "whack" and her eyes fly open, bulging before you see the top of her head roll, filling the screen with the sight of her hair tumbling and rolling. Camera follows it down into the basket, and the eyes are still open.

That bit of cinema made the biggest impact on me, with the shots and angles and how it could take you from being a watcher of the movie, to being the actual character. I ran like hell to my bedroom, hands on my neck all night, wanting to make sure it was still attached.

Yeah, but I saw all the best movies that way.... never got busted, just scared the bejeezus outta me on some of the movies! heh!!

I like the ending of Lucio Fulci's Don't Torture a Duckling. The killer is pushed off of a cliff. He scrapes his face on the side of the cliff his entire way down. In slow motion! It's badass.

The way super shredder died in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 was cool if only because super shedder was the dumbest idea ever and I was happy he didn't last long.

For death scenes, thirteen ghosts had some crazy ones. Like the lawyer getting sliced down the middle with the glass door, and the girl at the end getting literally smashed to nothing.

Also Raiders of the Lost Ark, when the guys heads melt off and explode at the end.

For torture, most of the good ones in movies have been said, but on Lost they recently had a disturbing one, sharpened bamboo shutes up the fingernails.

Good call, the crappy thing is that there's no way Super Shreder would have gone down simply because the dock fell on him.

But it was a bad idea, so I was glad to see him go.

Natural Born Killers!

Natural Born Killers!

I might have missed it, but I didn't see anyone mention Natural Born Killers in this thread. All sorts of great violence in there...there's a great one where Mickey kills a witness in court with a pencil...I think it's in the outtakes/deleted scenes on the DVD. My favorite would have to be where Mickey tells the little johnny joke in prison, grabs the shotgun, and starts shooting his way out. Cool stuff...
