fastest memory card for GH1?

I happen to have a 16GB SDHC Sandisk III card.

But it takes a while to download video. And I only shoot a few minutes right now.

What is the fastest SDHC card available for the GH1?

It could also be your USB card reader speed. I have Extreme III cards that I download to my computer at about 22-25MB/s. I use cheaper 16GB Ultra II cards for the GH1, and that downloads at about 13-15MB/s to my computer.

I use a Lexar UDMA professional CF/SD reader, it's on the higher end in price but worth it if you want fast transfer speeds from fast cards.

If you have Firewire then they have even faster card readers from both Lexar and Sandisk. I have firewire on my desktop but not on my laptop so I chose the USB 2 version so I can download while on location with my laptop.

If you're really interested in it going faster you should get a firewire card reader which are more expensive or consider getting a netbook with an SD card slot to do your dumping (I am thinking of getting one just for in-field dumping/backup.

Panasonic SD cards are massively overpriced.
 
the card speed is not the problem, it is likely, like I said your card reader maybe. SDXC does 104MB/s it says, but EXTREME Pro from Sandisk (and others) does 90+MB/s, but again, you need a reader that can match the speed.

Using your Sandisk III and a fast reader, you can transfer 16GB worth of stuff in a little under 10 minutes.
16GB = 16000MB divide by a 28MB/s transfer speed = 571.5 seconds divide by 60 to get 9.5 minutes.

if it's taking longer than that, it is not your card that is limiting, but your card reader. How long is it taking you to transfer to your computer? and what does the transfer speed show on the windows dialog when it is copying?

Well, I don't use a PC. I have a Mac Pro desktop (2008). DOes anyone know when SDXC is expected to be released? Haven't yet found a release date. But was wondering whether to just hold on to what I have and wait for SDXC.

Doesn't really matter when SDXC is released, because the products you're using now won't work with it. SDXC is a non-issue to GH1 owners because the GH1 works with SDHC, not SDXC.
