I guess it depends on your needs, but with a US$1800 price difference, thats a saving of up to US$27,000...

I have to admit though, if I was getting a second EX camera I would probably seriously consider a 3 over a second 1.
 
For all those in Australia looking for some stock of the Kensington card reader, please contact me directly. I have just secured an order of 26 of them and a possibility for 30 following shortely there after.

You must be aware though, they will not come in the plastic packaging. I am having a friend remove them from the packaging and sending them together to me in bulk to keep the shipping costs down to a minimum. On the positive side, I will test every reader before I ship it out.

I would allow about 2 weeks, thats a few days to get to my friend in the US, a few days for him to ship and about a week to get to me here.

And then once that is done maybe we can have this one be a Sticky Mods?

Was unclear here. How confident are you guys in the KxS system? I would not buy this camera if the KxS system was not an option. The KxS solution would be the primary (only?) means of recording on 15-17 EX cameras. Do you guys have that level of confidence in this system?

I'd shoot my daughter's wedding with it. 99% of my work is live event, no re-shoot. I don't even think twice about it.

That said, ANY media can have issues, including SxS. I've heard of P2 cards failing, I've seen tape fail, and I previously shot with a Firestore (no failures but certainly could have happened).

If you are on a job where you absolutely, positively, cannot have an issue, roll to KxS and an external recorder over SDI or component out. I have a miniDV deck that I might do this with for an upcoming shoot.
 
how do I figure out what firmware version is on the EX1?

found it... Turn on camera. Press menu, sel/set and cancel buttons simultaneously. Opens Maintenance menu. Firmware is listed here.

Sh*t happens,

But having said that I have four KxS combos and have been using them for two months with NO errors.

I would think a link to my KxS page is a pretty good start to this, why make duplicates all over the place of information that really needs to be maintained? About the only thing in that list that is not already written is the 'how to determine firmware' which isn't hard to add. Warranty issues, well, without Sony making a statement that is all guess work.

Ha ha, well, I don't know that mine will ship for a while yet. I haven't heard anything from B&H yet.

As a side note, I'll be using my small KxS setup for the first time on a job tomorrow (in conjuction with SxS). Should be good :)
 
I got my kensington @ microcenter & I got the cards at amazon. Bought the EX3 a week ago.. it will arrive Tuesday so I'll let you all know how it goes! (even though I pretty confident as I've heard a lot of positive results). I've read all 50 pages of the KxS threads here and there.. Thank you.. one name really stands out though.. steven, you get a gold star!
