Fast help: continuous recording?

I just realized that I would have to stop the camera to fromat a card if I have three cards and one offloading when another is filled. I have a PC laptop with Pcmcia slot. How do I do a continuous roll?

That shouldn't be an insurmountable problem, but the details depend on your current workflow and camera firmware.

Apparently the V4.05 and V4.06 firmware -- unlike earlier versions -- doesn't like cards that are completely blank, they expect to see the CONTENTS folder structure on the disk, and if it isn't present, will complain and make you format the card.

If you offload the card on a PC, I would suggest the following: format a card in the camera, and then copy the empty CONTENTS folder structure and the LASTCLIP.TXT file to your laptop as a template. Thereafter, every time you offload a card on the PC, either erase of format the card, and then put the CONTENTS folder you saved back onto the card.

P2 Genie for Windows is getting an update any day that will do all the heavy lifting for you, but if you are doing things manually, this should allow you to shoot continuously.

That's the hoops you'd have to jump through for a mac, but on Windows it's much simpler -- just format the card in P2CMS, or right-click and format the card in Explorer. The formatting option will create the proper directory structure.

Yeah that actually worked for me. I ended up just formatting, popping the card in and the camera did the rest! So we got real-time looped recording with the P2 Cards.

Unfortunately, my laptop couldn't keep up with the offload because it was too slow for that kinda work. It's not something that's regular, so I don't think I need a new laptop.

4 Cameras - 18 p2 cards (4gb, 8gb, 16gb) - 10 hours

Major pain. That's the most strenuous situation I could ever see P2 used in and if you had a fast enough laptop and enough cards to ensure swapping, then it's a cake walk.
