Thanks to those who gave me tips on how to do this!
I am so freaking thrilled with my DVX100A. Holy crap that's an awesome camera for the money. This came out spectacular, exactly as I had hoped:

Shot with Scene6 (24P) and 24.1 shutter speed, iris all the way open, at dusk, on a tripod between the seats in my Honda CRV (which is perfect for that).
For the ghosting POV effect, I used After Effects 6.5 and the Time compression to 25% in a first pass and Motion Blur at 360 degrees, pre-rendered, then a second pass with the same. And that's it!
Quite pleased.
Danke to all who offered suggestions. :dankk2:
(If the video looks washed out, adjust your media player setting brightness -5%. It's nice on the original, but the encoder seems to wash it out in Windows Media Player... not so much in RealPlayer though. Weird.)
