Fake Documentary DVX & SGpro

I had to make a documentary for a class ranging from 3-5 minutes. I have been really busy with other more important classes, so I decided to only spend one night and a few minutes the next day shooting it.

I had a friend of mine pretend to be a world wide guitar hero champion (video game) and the other friend was playing his strange manager. I let them say what they want which ended up being middle school jokes and genitalia references.

Don't bother watching it if it doesn't sound funny or interesting to you because it isn't really either. It is a guaranteed A based on how nice it ended up looking, and that is all I care about currently.

Thanks Anthony. I only used 2 old work spot lights and a little desk lamp to light them. It was hard since the SGpro needs a decent amount of light to get a good picture but it ended up looking a whole lot better than I thought it would.

i actually dont ahve audio hooked up...but it looked really good. i like how you clipped to zoomed in parts and back out - very documentary style.
i really liked the CC...i assume MB? or was a lot of it done in camera?

Yeah the close ups made it look cooler to me so I tried to do it a few times. I used the curves in vegas to make it darker and more shadowy looking, then the blue curve to tint it and i added more contrast. I just fiddled till I liked it. I used mb for the vignette in some of the b roll.

That was real nice Steven. Beautifiul look you got mate. The song for the film was awesome too, Eric Johnson is my favorite guitar player, been listening to him since his beginning.

That was hella sweet!! haha what where your settings? Man this kinda footage makes me think twice about going to HD. Very nice footage.

Fadedjosh - I think my scene file was the stock 24pa one but with -7 as the master ped. Everything else was whatever it is out of the box.

good

good

On my dvx I like to crush the blacks down by lowering the master ped too. For some reason it seems to capture the film look very well, especially on the SGPro.

Nice work.

Geeze. That was funny.

At least I am not the only crazy one that thinks that util lights can give great light

Thanks. Yeah the lights I had to use were not even the stereotypical BRIGHT work lights Home Depot sells. It was basically like taking a real dim house lamp and flipping the lamp shade upside down. They had to be real close so the SGpro could function, it was a pain but it looks nice somehow

Superb!

How was the lights positioned in the Spike McKinney Shots? It looks like overhead lighting.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Manny
For the Spike shots, I used the same 2 lights and yes they were hanging above him. His head was between the two so I made one hit the right side of his face, and the other his left side. He was back a little so they were more in front of him then directly above him. I used the ceiling halogen light that was behind him to help light up the background a little more since the 2 work lights were really dim. It didn't even look acceptable in person, but looking at my LCD while shooting, it looked nice somehow so I just left it alone.

Thanks for sharing the lighting info, much appreciated, will definitely give it a try.

Again, keep up the good work.
