Fader ND Mk.II is still kinda "meh" for telephoto

Okay, so here's my Vari-ND test. What you see (hopefully) below is a split-screen of the DSC Labs "Splash" Chart. On the left is the raw glass, no filter at all. On the right is the same shot with the Vari-ND in place, and set to "minimum ND" to best match the exposure (within reason). In Photoshop, I did a very simple levels adjustment, but nothing else.

Here's a resized JPG first…

Thanks for posting this. I checked out the TIFF. What happens when you increase the ND?

Unfortunately the deterioration with fader ND's is much worse at high levels of ND so while this looks good, it doesn't tell us enough. When this thing is used in bright sunlight you'll be using lots of ND

I'll see if I can do the same test outside in bright sunshine.

In fact, if I can get it done, I'll test bare lens stopped down (f16 or so), Vari-ND and .9 ND to see if there's a sharpness difference.

It will be very interesting to see wide open, 200mm, in the sunshine with the Vari-ND at a strong setting (presumably in the sunshine).

My guess is stopping the lens down won't adversely affect image much with such a big sensor but maybe. Not like an Ex-3.
