Facing The Giants

dvd finally arrived, and while it's not as good as fireproof, it was a great film, well acted, well written beautifuly lit and shot, its a must see for everyone. I think these guys are going to be huge, they are producing film in GA, that are better than anything Allin, Mann Burton, Bay, Stone or Kubrick could ever dream of making, well made films that actually have meaning, and touch people, the last time hollywood did that Jimmy Stewart was still acting.

For an indie feature made in Georgia, using non-actors, it's pretty darned good. Better by far than their first feature -- "Flywheel" -- which was decent for beginners.

"Fireproof" proves they're doing what we all always say is the right thing -- they started with a small, inexpensive feature. Got distribution for it, then made a better, larger budget feature. Got distribution for it, then made an even better, larger feature using one name actor -- and got distribution for it, with a pretty amazing box office return. I can only imagine what their next feature will do!

Hat's off to these folks.

Come on Jason.

You can't be serious. I can barely even respond.

I'm more offended he put Michael Bay in the same sentence with Stanley Kubrick.

wow you have no knowledge of film.

This thread just got REALLY funny!! Maybe even more funny than the acting in Facing the Giants...or that over 1500 people rate this movie a 10 on imdb, talk about idealogical bias!

And tons of movies have non-actors, from Soderbergh today to De Sica decades ago, it's really no big thang. And for their next feature they should concentrate more on the quality of the movie, their audience is guaranteed to see it regardless so they shouldn't have to sweat that..

Me too, however, I support the accumulation of an audience based on the strength of the films instead of the subject matter or what it represents for people's ideological views.

I'd lump this type of movie along with those such as some gay and lesbian films, because they reach large audiences in spite of their obvious flaws that any normal movie would suffer from.

Some people will like a movie just because it contains a message they believe in, but personally that isn't the type of audience I'd prefer.

That's exactly true. Just like some people will like a gory horror movie just because it's gory, regardless of whether it's good or not. Same with a zombie movie or a sex comedy.

As an indie producer, I love audiences who are so addicted to their favorite genre that they will even watch bad product. I don't advocate PRODUCING bad product. But their forgiving nature does help us get our foot in the door and make a few bucks, while improving our craft in the process.

And if a less-than-perfect Christian movie can make $20-some million at the box office, just imagine what a well-produced one can do!

I can't watch bad christian films, I remember one, where a bunch of people were shot but a crazy guy while people were protesting the death penalty, and 4 people ended up in a white space with ST.Peter, it was just bad, and I'm the first to admit when one is Bad, and Giants and FP were well made films
Kubrick71 you need to take your blinders off, it seems like your the one with the bias, assuming these films are bad because of their Genra, Get over it, These films are the Future. we're about to see a serge the likes of which the film world has never seen.

Jason with the huge flood of Christian music that has come on the market within the last 5 years it is just a matter or time before the tide turns to t.v. and movies.

Not going to bring my personal oppinions into it but now is the time to get on the band wagon, movie wagon or what ever, you know what I mean.

I'm wondering are there any good Jewish movies out there? Ohh, never mind thats everything hollywood makes.

Seriously, there are a lot of people paying attention right now to these "Faith Based" movies and markets, they will have the largest growth in the industry over the next 5-10 years.

I might be one of the first people to do a "Faith Based" horror film for the younger teenage Christian market.

We'll see how it goes, ask me in a year.

Lol! I never assumed anything but your welcome to think I did. I never said anything about Fireproof because I haven't seen it, but you're welcome to assume I did.

"Assuming they are bad because of their genre" Where did you get that? Re-read my post...

In my last comment I stated my opinion about different audiences, a fact that some people like a movie just because they believe in the meaning, and my opinion that I place Facing the Giants into the category I just mentioned, ie nothing wrong was said in my last comment.

And tip Jason; I, along with others may take you more seriously if you learn how to spell words like genre and others correctly. I'm telling you this because I'm trying to help you by giving constructive criticism, which is, you you may want to work on your spelling. There is a built in spell check to the forum, so if you'd like to begin it shouldn't be too difficult.

I agree, I think those genres also fall into the category, for some odd reason I couldn't think at the moment I posted of any others but gay and lesbian, lol.

And yeah for an indie producer it can really help out getting a film sold. I have actually been struggling with the concept of going for a genre based movie as my first film, from Prodigi's thread, information about AFM, and new considerations I've had lately about the nature of art itself. One can always improve right, so I may start out by setting the bar at a lower and more practical level.

For sure, if Fireproof is making $20 million I can't even imagine what may happen if a Christian film was created by someone with spectacular talent, Oscar type talent, I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of breaking records.
