F5: F5 Frame rates

Hi, I was wondering if someone can clear this up for me. I am really considering dropping some cash on an F5, but can someone tell me what the maximum frame rates are with and without the recorder please? I saw somewhere on here that the firmware will eventually enable 240fps. Is this true?

No speculation please! Just facts :)

The high speed option in the F5 and F55 to the raw recorders is currently stated as being 2K not 4K. Promised HFR capability of the F5 is 120FPS @ 2K Raw with the F55 promised to record 240FPS @ 2K Raw to the R5. While the FS-700 is shooting 240FPS to the internal cache in short bursts-(not 2K or 4K raw), I have not heard yet what the final RAW frame rate(s) of the FS-700 trough the external box to the R5 recorder will be... Food for thought.

Maybe the new FS700 will record to this new 4k recorder from Convergent Design: http://cinetiny.com/9femAYYG

Yummy!!! Nice catch

It has always bothered me how the external recorder manufacturers seemed to make the displays an afterthought. Convergent are using the same 7.7" OLED Screens that Small HD are using with software at a much lower price. Great for consumers....not so good for Small HD. Most people would prefer not to have two screens hanging off of their rig. It's harder on batteries, complicates set up and adds more weight.

Aside from the monitor, the recording specs look great. 422, 10 bit at 120P....wow...I don't know of any external recorder who manage that bit and frame rate. It will be interesting to see what they can price this at but it could set a new mark in price to performance ratio. I am assuming more will be revealed at NAB and if so, it could be one of the highlights.....especially if it works with the F700 as a 4k recorder.....could be my next big purchase

Watching the video on the Odyssey, apparently you can rent on a day by day basis a variety of codecs like ARRI Raw, Canon Raw, Uncompressed DPX,.. truly amazing.

What the what?? That's amazing! If they made this work with the FS700, they'd be onto a winner. There has to be a catch though. If I'm reading this correctly, it will do everything the Sony recorder will do, minus raw 240fps. So you have a fairly compact raw recorder, which doubles up as a monitor and only costs $1,295?? Can that really be? I would have thought it would have cost 4 times that!

Hey Stefan,

Yeah still living in IBK. What are you up to right now? Many projects on? How are you liking the FS700? Life's better in slow mo huh!

I've been working on building a cable cam for the past year and am doing some test shots soon. Thinking of taking it to skate plaza in the center of town that's opposite the Casino. You know it? Maybe you want to join and we can hook up finally... :)

Here's the beginnings of the website for the cable cam - http://www.submotion.net/#!cable-cam/ck0q

well you have to add the rental of the codecs and the propriety ssd cards in there.
