F3 arrived? Post it up here!

Looks great. Which shoulder mount and grips do you have?

PS time to invest in some velcro straps for cable management. :)

Hi Duke. Its the movietube rig - type it into google and cvp (the place I bought it from) and you call see all the details. Absolutely right about the messy cables, will get them sorted! Can't use the Ninja as you see in this picture as I found it's not possible to get a clean signal out of BOTH the sdi out and HDMI. I'll have to wait for a Samurai and use the hddsdi out. I won't use the cameras lcd panel at all, just my TVLOGIC screen as a VF so I really need to see some information on the monitor.

I think I understand what you are after and I don't know if you can do it until both the new firmware is out and you have S-Log.

Then you can run the display through regular SDI and the output through the A/B ports. That's my intention in the future.

Nice rig Sparky-I have the Movietube as well and eventually removed the extra top handle and side assembly to save some weight and mass...don't miss it at all.
I would recommend you get something like a berkey top plate to better distribute the stress of those two monitors. I suspect those Sony holes aren't backed up with a lot of structural reinforcement...
Enjoy.

+1 Those holes flex with an extended arm on them. Get the Berky plate fast! It distributes the weight and is a much stronger arrangement.

Hiya. Sorry for slow reply, just returned from a shoot in Shanghai. Do you think the handle on the F3 is strong enough to lift the camera and rig - without using the Movietube handle? It carries quite a bit of weight.. Thanks, Sparky

If you put a heavy zoom, mattebox, recorder, monitors, handles and other stuff on there, I think I'd keep the Movitube handle...that's a pretty hefty load you've got there.

Probably everyone here picks up their camera by the handle with all the goodies on it. I know I do. The grip cushions move occasionally, but the handle doesn't seem to flex. Plastic doesn't do well under torque but since the handle is attached at both ends there's little torque. Probably some metal in there too.

Once I start the camera moving I use the other hand to support underneath it. However, its not the handle that I think is the weak link. Its that damn cheap little tripod mounting bracket under the camera. Its about the same as the one on the EX1 and they've been known to break.

I do note the angle of the rails flexes slightly when there are grips, matte box, FF, etc hanging on the end. I think that's due to the baseplate screwing into that cheap little plastic tripod mounting square on the bottom of the camera.

The week before Christmas I received my F3. I had rented it a few times before I decided to buy it. I really like the versatility of this camera. I am not done buying, but I got enough stuff in to do a few shoots I had coming up and so far the clients are loving the look. The lens in the picture below is the Agenieux DP 30-80mm, love this lens for interviews.

Accesories so far:

O-Box
O-focus
16x9 dovetail and F3 mount with LW15 rails.
Small DP6 SDI.
Nikon Mount

Soon to come:
External recorder
S-Log
New PL Lenses

That looks lovely! Love the lens too, but boy is that lens expensive! Did you but it new or was it used? Over here in the UK there are retailing for £17,000! Just received my S-LOG today and can't wait to start some testing with it shortly. Good luck with what is an amazing camera!

Thanks. I am loving the camera so far. I have several more items to buy once I get back from my shoot in South Africa. That lens doesn't officially belong to me, it is on, kind of, permanent loan from a rental house I use a lot. I have seen them for sale used for around $15,000, but new they are right at $20,000. I am looking at buying this one or possibly getting the newer 45-120mm they have. I need to call Abel and see if the DP lenses will work on the new F65 as I plan to move up to that camera in a year or or two.

OK, so finally here's my F3. It took me a long while to find out how it works best, and for the moment this is the configuration I use almost every shooting day.
It is a mix and match, mostly Vocas rig with there excellent wooden grip, Berky and Zacuto cheese plate, Optitek Nikon adapter, Vocas FF, IDX battery plate with 7.2V out, Global Media V-lock's and a viewfinder rig from Letus.
The only bummer is the Cineroid with its hopeless HDMI.
the Amazon HDMI swivel adapter helps a bit but I'm counting down to the introduction of the TVlogic EVF.IMG_3820.jpgIMG_3818.jpgIMG_3816.jpgIMG_3815.jpg

I hate you Timur...

Your brilliant examples of the F3, Cooke lenses and S-Log made my bank account a lot lighter this past week. Photos of our rig to come soon!

Here from south, Rosario, Argentina my new baby, more or less five months ago I began my F3 xperience, just a month ago I got S-Log in CA really a joy to use camera.F3.jpgF3_.jpgF3:.jpgpix.jpg

here's my new rig.

is it just me or is the color really clean? i've heard others say that they did not like the look of the camera straight out of the box. so far i've only been putzing around with natural light, but i don't see any sort of bias in this setting. i dialed back the detail a bit, but i'm not sure i want to do anything else. while i tend to like sony color overall, the ex3 can be a bit cold and soul-less even for me sometimes. the f3 just looks clean, which i love.

redrock micromatte box. it's a beast, bigger than it needs to be. but it was free!
