F3 arrived? Post it up here!

Hey nate, congrats, how are you finding your RED 18-50mm ? I love mine, it feels like the perfect fit for fast setups with the F3, like it was made for that camera not the RED one.

It's got it's issues, but on the whole I think it's the perfect lens for this camera. Size, weight, the fact it communicates to the body, it's readily available used.

I think if people got to try one instead of reading about them on the net they'd realize it's the lens to have, rather than investing in nikon adapters and mismatching SLR lenses (not because they mismatch in color, but because of mechanics/focus throws, etc).

It's hard to get good with focus when your set of lenses all behave differently.

Hi Nate,
Does the 18-50 hold-sustain the focus while zooming ?
I mean, preserves the focus ?

Picked up my new F3L from Omega Broadcast in Austin today. Drove back to Houston and shot for hours around the office with my MTF Nikon adapter and a 50mm 1.8 Nikon that I'm using while waiting for a friends set of ZF.2's to be Duclos'd. I cannot believe how clean this camera is in low light. Absolutely gorgeous. I'd set it up to the Vortex A and L settings and I am really pleased with what I'm seeing with just 4:2:0. Will do a green screen test tomorrow. So very happy to have a rock solid looking Sony XDCAM EX F3 to go with my EX1R and EX3--they all use the same accessories, same SxS pro cards, same everything. Grabbed a Switronics EX L96 to power the camera and a monitor.

My MTF adapter just arrived. Man, you can see the peaking 'walk' across carpet as you turn the focus ring. Much better than a DSLR or even the EX1.

This version is soon changing, but its still camera porn on a budget. LOL

The Manhattan 720p kit monitor will be replaced by a TVLogic 5.6" monitor with HD-SDI arriving next week.
The 2 Tokina zooms will be replaced by 3 Nikon F2.8 zooms - 17-35mm, 28-70mm, 80-200mm, arriving this weekend.
New follow focus arrives next week.

Duke,

What size gear ring do you have on your 28-70? I am waiting for it and F3 to arrive this week so need to get a gear ordered for it. Thanks.

Hi Duke,

May I ask you -if possible, where did you get your Nikon ED 28-70 F2.8... and how much you paid for it?

A very good friend of mine is looking for a good deal too.

Best,

H

I bought the both the 17-35mm and 28-70mm Nikkor lenses used so I can't help you with finding another lens. As far as lens gears go my FF came with two adjustable gears so I can't say what size they are. Semi permanent gears might be nice, but these are actually working well.

My F3-L arrived today with CP.2 set and others. Will post some pics of the kit soon. London, UK.

Arrived today. Photos to come-- F3L - Red 18-50; MTF Nikon adapter; Sigma 50-150 Nikon. More glass to follow. Berkey top plate. Zacuto EVF Pro. O Box, but currently backordered. Zacuto shoulder pad. Already owned Zacuto baseplate. NanoFlash. DVtec ENG rig.

I already owned a Nanoflash. I'll be getting both a Samurai and Pix240 for review but according to both vendors, that's not happening until after IBC.

Ned, I'm curious why you chose the Sigma 50-150mm as your primary lens. The zoom lengths are certainly attractive for not changing lenses, but the slight vinetting both wide and tele with a little barrel distortion wide and some pincushion tele always made me set this one aside. I wish they had done it in a full frame lens (which would have eliminated the vinetting at least.) Works fine in the middle lengths, but I'm busy enough to not notice a small issue created by the lens until I'm in the edit bay.
