GH4 Eyecup suggestions?

I had better luck with mine. The eyecup fits snug on the GH4 and I can see the top and bottom at the same time fine. I wish I could see the sides a hair wider but I still see all the way to the edges with a bit of vignetting. The rubber isn't very comfortable, so I wouldn't recommend if for lengthy outdoor shooting, and as i suspected, it interferes with the eye sensor function so you'll have to switch monitor modes manually either with the switch of by shutting the LCD. The eyecup does not interfere with the opening and closing of the LCD. May still hunt for one with better quality rubber that's more comfortable but this will do for now.

I got one of the cheap 22mm Nikon ones and it doesn't fit very well on the GH4. Anybody got any other solutions for this? I've actually lost my GH4 eye cup now so would love one that fit really nicely, didn't obstruct the LCD or the focusing for the EVF, and get an extra bit of eye comfort!

maybe someone can help me..

I have to modify it?
thanks

loosing my mind over here......feel like i just wasted $9.

Amazon has just about the easiest return policy. Go to your orders page, select return on the item you bought, print up the shipping label and send it off without spending a cent. I've gotten refunds the next day.

Been following this thread, no luck getting a Cambo eyecup sent from the UK, so I decided to try my C-CUP (even though it's made for the C100) on the GH4, and it works surprisingly well! Andrew Alden Miller you the man.

Nice idea... shame I just sold mine with the C100!

My Nikon eyecup was working fine, but I finally decided to get the NeeView-M loupe, which is actually a rebranded Kamerar QV-1M. It even came in the Kamerar box. Couldn't be happier. Having the 2.5x enlarged screen and giant eyecup makes focusing so much easier. Fits the GH4 perfect, and the magnetic attachment makes taking it on and off a breeze.

Got the G cup for my gh4 today and i see the vignetting , ima do outdoor test today, took them like over week to ship it to me too. If im not happy i might go with the Cambo eye cup.

Absolutely!

I've got the QV-1M I ordered from here:

http://www.photographyandcinema.com/collections/lcd-viewfinders/products/qv-1-m-lcd-view-finder

...And this is about the best solution I've seen anywhere. It's about like REALLY having your cake and eating it, too!

When I was using Canon, I used to use the Hoodman Cinema setup: Hoodloupe with 3X eyepeice, and that "crane" that slid into the shoe on the camera and "suspended" the loupe behind the camera. Optically it did the job but as far as mechanical stability you had to be careful with it.

The Kamerar (and apparently NeeWer rebranded version) solves all of that and feels solid too. And for anyone using Manfrotto 501 compatible fluid heads, the 501PL compatible base is really convenient.

Only problem is...

...The GH4 EVF is so good I don't need the loupe much.

If I must say im not happy with the G cup at all for the GH4, its made of good quality but the awkwardness of the design and i cant see 100% of viewfinder is a big deal to me, So im seeing if i can get refund and either get the QV 1M like above or the Cambo Eyecup.

I bought the Cambo and used it once — it is somewhat awkward to put on and remove, prevents any diopter adjustment while it's on, blocks use of the Fn5 button and the AF/MF selector wheel, and makes it impossible to open and close the LCD with it on. Other than that, it's fine.

The QV-1M solution Bruce is talking about sounds much preferable to the Cambo.

It is the best "loupe" solution I've used yet. But what needs to be fully understood is that in use anything like that will take some degree of getting used to. I've done a fair amount of work with an "attached" LCD loupe, with the Canon's (and any other DSLR with "optical" viewfinders) using a Loupe was the only solution for fairly bright outdoors. In DSLR's the mirror goes up when you go into "live view" mode and the LCD on the back is the ONLY viewfinder you have to use.

In bright light you can't see reliably enough to be accurate with anything, the loupe on the LCD does block out extraneous light and allows you to see focus, and see exposure to some extent.

So until going m4/3 I had to "hunker" down behing a viewfinder loupe a fair amount. I've used CAVISION; took about 3-4 minutes to assemble and disassemble the parts when mounting or dismounting. I've used the Hoodman setup; once adjusted it was easy on and easy off but not as stable as I'd like. The Kamerar has been the best of the lot.

But a certain amount of flexibility and adaptability on the part of the operator helps more than anything. With the GH4 and G7 we have the best EVF's Panasonic has given us yet. The eyepiece "cup" setup may not be perfect but I can "adapt" to what is there and don't want anything bigger or bulkier to contend with. I'll shield sunlight with my hand if I have to, or block with my cap, and press on and get the scene shot.

Just my $0.02 worth, and that may be worth exactly what you just paid for it.

In a perfect world the GH4 would have a large-ish VF that tilts up and down- a GX7's VF on steroids. A guy can dream...

That being said, the stock eyecup is heinously small and the G-cup is a huge step up in function. I took delivery of mine yesterday, and I'm quite pleased with it. I can see the full frame if I press my eye into it with a fair amount of force. As an eyeglass wearer- I don't see it working while wearing specs. At least the ones I have. Fortunately, the diopter mitigates focus issues.
Any eyecup solution is going to be handicapped by the small dimensions of the VF itself. There is a fine line between having an effective eyecup and one that impinges on view-ability of the full VF. IMO, the G-cup is a nice compromise. When shooting outdoors, I can now forego the necessity of wearing a hat in order to flag the VF.
My concerns?
1. It is very stiff rubber, I hope it softens up with use. As it is, you need to push your face into it with quite a bit of force in order to get your eye into the position to see the VF side to side.
2. While the LCD can be opened with the G-cup installed, It blocks the LCD a bit when viewing it from a typical viewing position. You need to tilt the camera down a bit to view the full screen.

Would I buy it again ? Absolutely. Is it the perfect solution ? No, it's a compromise. The perfect solution would be a better designed VF from Panasonic.
