Extreme Vs Brevis

does anyone know if the cinevate rails allow for the quick release plate, that would attach the rails ( with the camera and all mounted ) to be centered on a tripod to evenly distribute the weight horizontially ( steadicam stuff as well ) or is it fixed under the camera?

Hi The MacB:

The matte box is pretty simple. You put your filters in the filter trays, you mount the matte box on the rails, the lens goes through the rubber donut at the rear. You put the french flag on top and the side flags on, adjust them to shade out any sun or extraneous light. There's not much to it.

I agree with Dx, please post some pics (close ups) of the rear of the Cinevate rails mount. A lot of us out here have new Letus Extremes and cannot use our matte boxes with them.

Thanks,

Dan

Oops, DX, completely forgotten about those photos you asked of the Cinevate rails.

Will try to get them in the morning (its a holiday).

But what exactly will close up pics of the rear achieve?

I never used the matte box before (the ones that connect to the rails) but I'm guessing it depends on how high the matte box can go from the rails to the lens? Are matte boxes height adjustable?

you can mount your tripod plate either under the camera or under the other plate in the middle of the rails. and if you turn the camera platform around 180 degrees so it hangs off the back it'll go really low. and i think if you flip upside down the plate that the camera platform is mounted on, you could even go a little higher than it is in the pic. hope these help!

thanks puredrifting, i think i've got it figured out. but i guess it won't really all go together until i have the adapter. i don't think i'll be able to sleep until it arrives.

Believe me, it's more frustrating to have the adapter and not have your camera. My camera went to the repair place Monday, I am counting the minutes until it is returned.

MacB:

So that riser on the Cinevate mount, how high is it? In your picture, is that as high as it can go?

Thanks,

Dan

Hey Dan, I have the rails as well. That is the highest the standard riser tube can go. However, you can have longer tubes cut from wherever and use them if needed.

Ok, hope this helps, (some quickly done shots :Drogar-Mark-10(DBG))

The metal tube undernearth the camera plate would rise as high as around 5 cm. Anyway mine is set to rise about 3 cm. But when I integrate a matte box and ff eventually, the configuration might change.

Papa, I'm not sure what a quick release plate is, but you have to screw the in the plate so I'm guessing its fixed.

I just came back to correct my previous post but these Chans pics beat me to the punch. I said that was the highest it could go before having to get a custom cut tube. However, as Chan has already shown in his pics, flipping the brevis block upside-down with riser plate on above the rails allows significantly more room to raise your camera.

And yes, Papa, the QR plate can be balanced. Though I've found that my QR plate is bigger than the bogen 503's, 501's, that are a common combo with the cinevate rails. The 516's are longer so you wont have as much room to balance the QR plate unless you push the riser towards the back and have the camera mounting plate pointing towards the front, like you can see in Chan's picture. I needed the riser tube next to the QR plate with the mount pointing towards the back (standard setup) so I have less balancing room.

All in all, its a very customizable rails system.

The quick release is under the plate. Because it is a seperate piece on it's own, you can move the rails front and back to adjust the weight distrubition of your whole set up.

Very interesting system. They should put your pictures on the Cinevate website, they much more clearly show how this stuff all works.

Thanks!

Dan

I see your pictures and you've got the same scratching problem that I have. Are carbon rails suppose to scratch so easily? I scratch mine each time I'm moving a block (which don't slide very easily by the way).

I also have my rig setup the same way. I also noticed the scratching of the carbon rods.

Why carbon rods anyway? what´s wrong with aluminium? isn´t that much easier to get and handle?

Yes. And while the scratching is bothersome, it's more of an aesthetic thing:violin: (AFAIK). I doubt that they're gonna break because of some scratches...

Well, this in one configuration I hadn't seen yet by just flipping the rear mount over :-) There's such a huge variety of ways to configure these. The scratching is not an issue structurally, which is why we use a very heavy wall spec for the tubing. That said, we've got something very interesting coming in the carbon department that ups the stiffness factor over stainless by 75%, is still half the weight, and can be used to beat off thieves.

Dennis,

A lot of teases about the matte box and new product, when will you be able to spill the beans? Inquiring minds want to know.
