Also in you opinion, what flavour of Prores is similar to EXcam's 35mbs codec. I know your's is 4:2:2 10bit etc and better straight up but considering storage would the low res Prores codec be similar or what? I am thinking of long form filming, events etc and the Excam is pretty good compression wise where prores will chew through the gb's.
Evom,
Expect to use more data space if you go ProRes instead of XDCAM-EX. As much as 4x as much space. Only the ProRes proxy codec has a similar footprint to XDCAM-EX, and it's designed for, well... proxy use. Offline edits and such.
The ProRes white paper is a good read: http://images.apple.com/finalcutstudio/docs/Apple_ProRes_White_Paper_July_2009.pdf
The ProRes (LT) codec may be suitable for your needs, it's designed for long form event & multicam shooting.
At 1920x1080 30p or 60i the ProRes (LT) codec uses 46GB per hour.
The white paper has full charts.
