I'm looking to buy an external monitor for my 7D.

Any ideas on the best to go with? Ikan? seems cheap.. Marshall seems to be the way?

And how do they attach if I don't have a cage system or rails? will it connect to the shoe on the top of the cam?

Also, HDMI in or SD in?

Thanks

I like the marshals. They have peaking for focus assist and false colors for exposure. As for HDMI or HDSDI, it all depends on your application. If you are going to need multiple monitors for a video village or such, than you will need the HDSDI monitor(http://www.evsonline.com/marshall-7...monitor-with-anton-bauer-battery-plate-2.html) with a blackmagic adapter(http://www.evsonline.com/blackmagic-design-mini-converter-hdmi-to-sdi.html) so that you can daisy chain through the HDSDI ports of the monitor (something you cant do with HDMI).

If multiple monitoring solutions aren't necessary than the HDMI version(http://www.evsonline.com/marshall-7...onitor-with-anton-bauer-battery-plate-10.html) is virtually the same

As for connection to camera, yeah you can connect to the hotshoe with the bogen 492LCD (http://www.filmtools.com/bogman30minb.html) hot shoe adapter.

Be careful of the Marshall. Great monitor but low res. Apparently, the peaking (focus assist) only "sort of" works. If focus is a big issue then look at the smallHD or the Manhattan. The Manhattan comes in a 7.1" with 1024x768 and there's a 8.9" (8900 version) version with 1280x768. Besides the focus issue, The Marshall seems to have the best "pro" features for calibration, but the Manhattan isn't far behind - it's even got a freeze frame capability for matching shots.
