C100: External Monitor and Atmos Ninja 2

I've got a external monitor I've been using with my c100 but i want to add an Atmos Ninja to up my bitrate. Both run through the HDMI port. I don't have experience with external records; is it somehow possible to record with the Ninja and still use my external monitor for viewing. Or is there a cheaper alternative to the Ninja seeing as I don't need monitoring features?

What are your setups?

Yep! The Ninja 2 has a "HDMI In" port, so you plug your HDMI cable into that from the camera, then you send another HDMI cord into the "HDMI Out" port on the Ninja 2 into the "HDMI In" port on the external monitor.

replacing your monitor with a ninja blade will give you an all in one solution without the extra clutter and weight

This ^^^^^^^^^^^

Using a recorder monitor and a monitor monitor on camera would be bulky, heavy and cluttered. I love my Blade. Although using the Blade on camera and looping HDMI out to the client monitor is good stuff.

All comes down to money boys.. of course I'm sure a second hand blade these days could be bought for under $1k

I would love to do this but then I've got an external monitor just sitting there collecting dust. I could sell it but I only got it about a month ago (company sent it to me for review) so I may just keep it. Curly how bad is the clutter? Do you find yourself using the ninja 2 a lot?

ninja blade can be had for 500$ new just 200$ more than the ninja2.
Anything you hang on your camera will mess up the ergonomics of you're rig.
Especially for handheld work its important to keep the bulk to the minimum.
an alternative would be to use a ninja star with your monitor but that means buying cfast cards which are not cheap either .
a catch 22 situation.

I've seen used Blades for $300.00 and $500.00 for a new one is a steal if you are okay with 1080. Zero reasons to not buy one. Keep your monitor as a client or AC monitor.

Pure drifting, that is an attractive solution ha ha. I think I'll probably head down that route and use it as a client reference. Thanks guys.

I know this has already been discussed to death but how much quantifiable difference will i be getting if I use the external recorder. I like the image straight out the camera and it is gradeable to an extent but I mainly shoot widedr instead of log.
