GH4 External Microphone Solutions for the GH4 (avoiding the buzz)

Has anyone else noticed a "clicking" sound after certain consonants or at the end of words?

At first thought it was my subject needing a drink of water. Then I heard it on the next interview I shot. Then I began to worry something was wrong with my microphone. The sound has too much detail? I tried setting the mic off axis a bit and that helped a little.

I hear the same sound on this video. I am suspecting errors in the A/D conversion. The "click" has a certain pitch to it that is constant. It is very subtle, but the more I listen the more I hear it -mostly on words containing "ng" kinds of sounds. Those tiny transients in between words and syllables seem to be accentuated. On the last interview we shot I turned the camera's limiter off, but that didn't change anything.

Now we know how Panasonic kept the price down. By using inferior audio components. It's a darn shame from a company that has manufactured quality audio devices for decades.

I am using a Sound Devices MixPre D with a Sennheiser MKH50 mic with the camera level at -12. Monitoring through UA Apollo Twin and Adam-A7 speakers.

This video made me want to get the Panasonics DMW-MS2 own mic. The ability to have both Stereo and Shotgun in one is the selling point for me. Plus do I understand correctly that the buzz is not an issue with it? Anybody can confirm?
If it is then probably gonna go for Zoom H4n.

Could be related to an AGC feature on the GH4. Perhaps try lowering the output of the SD MixPreD to prevent anywhere near clipping on the GH4 (the SD has an excellent limiter). Perhaps post a sample clip.

Interesting information gentleman. What is the verdict on the following:

Mount a Rode NTG 2 on top of the GH4 hot shoe and recording directly into the camera for documentary interviews both run-and-gun as well as staged interviews?

Whenever I hear side by side samples btw the NTG2 and VideoMic Pro, the VMP always sounds better.
